About this listen

Madcap tomboy.

When the local magistrate jailed Jacelyn Trevaine's pet dog as a public nuisance, the country miss knew he meant to blackmail her into socializing with his nephew. High-spirited Jacelyn decided to free her dog by kidnapping the precious nephew, but unfortunately she abducted the wrong gentleman! Her captive was none other than handsome Lord Leigh Claibourne - returned war hero and rake extraordinaire. And four hours alone with the libertine Earl was tantamount to social ruin. Of course if she was already ruined, Jacelyn may as well give society something to be scandalized about.

Hardened womanizer.

Claibourne found country life tiresome and dull until he was kidnapped by an irrepressible chit whose candor was utterly disarming. Even rakes have their points of honor, however, and when the situation threatened to compromise Jacelyn, the cynical nobleman was forced to give the appearance of being betrothed to her. Claibourne never gave something for nothing. And in the case of the deliciously appealing Jacelyn, he'd hold her reputation hostage for a rake's ransom.

Great little story bad production quality

The narration is fine but the quality of the production is not very good. The story is great. It's a perfect romcom!

Rake's Ransom

Rake's Ransom is one of my all time favorite Barbara Metzger book. I was thrilled to see that it was released on audible. I am hoping that more of Barbara's books will be released on audible.

I love the job that Stevie Zimmerman did as the narrator. She is amazing. I hope that she narrates all of Barbara Metzger's future audio-books!

Great story - action and romance - not smutty

This is a great story! The narrator could be much better. There were many times I could not understand her. It often sounded like she was too close to the microphone. Nonetheless, I recommend this book.

good for a movie

Some very funny scenes. The villain is unique and original. Not cut from the usual mold. although the plot is pretty standard, it is entertaining if not quite believable.

All of these novels get strained when you get tired of waiting for the lovers to tell each other they are in love. That part is tedious but most of the plot skirts the conventional script for period Romance with some delightful results.

Fun!

Humorous, serious, dramatic, traumatic, silly, outlandish, foolish, frolicking, clean fun.

With a first class narrator and a lack of any heat this was well worth the time and money!

Whimsical and fun

I really enjoyed this work. A couple of reviews said it was boring and unbelievable. Duh... it is not exactly reality and it is delivered with humor and a nice amount of romance and it is back a bit in time so it both delighted and surprised as did cupboard kisses which is even funnier.
I want to sail away to another interesting world personally. These 2 books did the trick.

Not as squeaky clean as I’d hoped...

But still a really great story! And Stevie Zimmerman is amazing with the narration like always!!!

Humor, murder, and the ton

delightful springs of humor sprinkled among mystery, murder attempts, scandal all in one season. The questionable debutante, the Lord she had kidnapped, and his attempt to rescue her reputation, as well as her person, several times over, all mixed up in a story to be told. or heard/read as the case may be.

Pointless

Not believable, idiotic story. The heroine is a spoiled brat who needs to grow up. Her antics are childish in the extreme and put me off the whole story.

What did they say?

I could not understand 95% of what was said, thus I found.it difficult to follow the story.
