Publisher's summary

A country manor. Two murders. Multiple suspects. Can DI Ford solve the case before his own dark past is exposed?

After a dog walker discovers human remains in a badger sett in the idyllic Salisbury countryside, DI Ford is called in to lead the ensuing murder investigation. When a second victim turns up in a nearby pond, Ford is determined to find the connection.

Both victims met their fate near the sprawling Alverchalke Estate, ancestral home of a decorated war hero and his family. One was a dogged eco-activist and vocal critic of Lord Baverstock. The other was a petty criminal and poacher, youngest brother of a notorious local crime family. Certain that there’s more to this case than trespassing, Ford and Dr Hannah Fellowes race to find the hidden link. But when one victim’s family threatens to expose Ford’s own dark secret, the ticking clock becomes a time bomb.

Still consumed by guilt over his part in his wife’s tragic accident and struggling to raise the teenage son he lied to, Ford now finds himself losing control of the investigation. Can he work with Hannah to solve the case while privately fighting off the attempted blackmail? Or have his demons finally caught up with him?

Nice who done it!

I love the fact that you actually had to think about who it was. It wasn’t obvious from the beginning. It was a little slow on the action side of things however. Over all good read.

fantastic series

I love DSI Ford, Sam, Julia and Hannah. The story is great, very plausible. The narration is fantastic, I love him, he could read the dictionary to me.

DI Ford vs aristocracy again…

DI Ford and team are investigating the discovery of human remains in a badger set, no less. BTW, the location is on land of a Lord. The victim is non other than the youngest brother of a crime family…the family that is very familiar to Ford. When the body of an activist is later found, Ford starts to have suspicions about the titled land owners. As the team delves into the lives of the suspects, someone keeps leaking information…let’s not forget Ford’s constant guilt over his wife’s death. Very intriguing story that will surprise you with the ending.
I absolutely LOVE the narration!!

Love this Book

I am enjoying this series very much! I am eager to read the next in it. I love the characters, and am eager to see what develops between Ford and Wix. The plot thickens with the upcoming resentments and future disclosures! Steve West does such a great job with narration!

Terrible Narration!

A pretty weak story, with stilted narration by Steve West, takes characters who were already hard to like , and makes it this story just fall apart.

Well read, well written, predictable.

There are solid elements of very good storytelling, followed by disappointing repetition of tropes. There is a lack in the writing for individual voices to be unique. The reader does a masterful job of masking these flaws. Everyone speaks with the same vocabulary, be it a teen, superclass lord of parliament, or beat cop. I was entertained and enjoyed the read, I enjoyed even more the listen.

I will buy more from this author.
