About this listen

A fearless captain and a mysterious girl who walks on water. An underwater city and a destined deadly curse. What could possibly go wrong?

Captain Jorah is renowned for being one of the youngest explorers to ever sail Zephyrian waters. He’s also notorious for landing his crew in situations they hadn't counted on, involving man-eating mermaids and other dangerous misadventures.

When Jorah decides to search for the legendary underwater City of Larimar, he doesn't account for the quest that follows. After being rescued from shipwreck by a mysterious young woman who walks on water and carries a singing seashell around her neck, he soon finds himself reunited with an old friend once thought lost to him. Before he knows it, he’s caught up in a race against time to save her yet again, this time from a looming prophecy about a deadly serpent destined to consume her entire race.

Can Jorah help her save her people before the dark prophecy completes itself?

A FRIEND AND THE GEM OF THE SEA

THIS BOOK REALLY SURPRISED ME. THE STORY IS FUN, FILLED WITH SOME SUSPENSE AND OF COURSE ADVENTURE! A PRINCE WHO DOES NOT HAVE A LIFE OF EASE MAKES A FRIEND, AND GOES ON AN ADVENTURE TO SAVE THEM THE BOOK IS NOT A CLIFF HANGER. AND LEAVES ROOM FOR MORE STORIES TO FOLLOW!
THE NARRATOR IS FANTASTIC, AND I CAN NOT WAIT TO LISTEN TO MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR AND NARRATOR!

Captivating YA Fantasy

This was my first experience with Christine E. Schulze's work, and I found it entertaining. The story gripped me from the opening pages until the end, and I recommend it to others who enjoy this genre. The characters were interesting and varied. There were some surprising twists and turns. I appreciated the action scenes and the magic that threaded through the story. Jocelyn Duford's narration was great, and her performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

A wonderful adventure of friendship and overcoming

Reading Gem of the Sea was an experience of its own, but hearing the voices of Jorah and Larimar come to life is something that elevates the magic of Schulze's writing to another level. I almost wished there had been more singing! Larimar's song of her people is something I could listen to on repeat. The formatting is exceptional. There is a pause in between the ending of one chapter and the beginning of the next, and the speech is very fluid and easy to understand. The fact that this is an audio book helps immerse the reader in the experience or serves as good background noise while doing work around the house. I would sag the only issue that I had was when I would get a notification, not only because it would forcefully pause the audio book, but it would also cause the audio to repeat itself, an example would be when the narrator is explaining Larimar's expression shifting, if it said the smile fell from her face, it would repeat the word smile twice, sometimes it would repeat an entire sentence. So if you plan to listen to this audio books, be sure to have Do Not Disturb on, or make sure everyone you text regularly know that you're going on a mini audiocation and should not be disturbed unless it's an emergency for fluid and efficient listening.
Larimer is both a visual and now audible (pun unintended) treat that I recommend anyone who enjoys YA and fantasy should delve head first into this story of friendship, adventure, and overcoming the direst of odds., I promise that you won't regret it.

A wonderful tale of adventure!

Such a remarkable story by Christine that leaves you wanting more. The story's quick pace had me on the edge of my seat. It also kept me second-guessing myself as to what was going to happen. I enjoyed this daring sea adventure and am looking forward to more of Christine's books on Audible. The narrator did a great job narrating the various voices of the characters and even sang the lovely songs in the book!

Beautiful story

Listened to the audiobook and loved the story - it was easy to listen to with children around and a great story for kids/teens that like adventure. Larimar and her sister had a realistic relationship as did the Prince Jorah and his sister.
