👍🏻

An enjoyable space opera, if you can ignore the inconsistencies, errors and predictable plot. Any actual science was sacrificed for lots of action. Which was fun but maybe not for everyone. I think with a little refining this series could be really awesome.

Really enjoyed the narrator. Wonderful performance. Brought the book to life.

Classic sci fi

This is a great sci fi story, I am very happy that i discovered it. I've been sharing it with others. One thing I want when i start reading sci fi are the characters, the plot and the science. I like all of it.

Great story line :)

I really liked this audiobook. Fine personality flesh out of the characters, both the "good" and the "bad". I recommend this book and hopefully the series. I will be listening to the next one in the series. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Enjoyable!

Greg did an awesome job in writing, in detail, the characters and their role in this story. It was articulated in such great detail that I can visualize what is going on and somewhat sense what that character is feeling.

Helga is one-of-a-kind character who thinks is an all down warrior. But after what she went through, reality slaps her in the face and recognizes that war, battle, and death is not something to take light of. It is either her and her team that will survive, or the brain-suckers. But are they the only enemy out there? Will it be too late to reveal the bigger plans for the Nighthawks?

Cari also did a fantastic job narrating the voices. It can be very difficult to narrate masculine voices. She pulled it off perfectly.

I loved the world building!

This book was set in a world where humans colonize outside of earth and where aliens eat humans for dinner. Enter the Nighthawks. The Nighthawks are an elite group of soldiers who are tasked with keeping the universe safe. Into this, our main character Helga Atte, must prove herself or die.

In creating this world (these worlds?), Greg Dragon gave us non-stop, crazy suspense. The Nighthawks did not have it easy.

I loved the narration and the narrator. This listen was wall-to-wall action with a large array of characters, quite a few alien, but it was handled with a deft tongue.

This is book one and it sets up nicely for the next installment.

The Best Military Si-Fi I Have Ever Read

Last of the Nighthawks is more than your average trek through an unknown galaxy. In a genre filled with tropes and clichés, Greg Dragon is able to bring a story to life in such a new and vivid way it makes you believe that you have entered into his world. This book blew me away with the quality of the storytelling, the depth of the characters, and the complexity of the world building. It is easily one of the best science fiction works that I have ever read and I cannot wait for more. I received this book free, in exchange for an honest review.
Morality rating- Last of the Nighthawks contains and abundance of violence and gore, nudity, and a single sex scene.

all in all, really good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great example of good sci fi. I found it unique, interesting and very entertaining. The narration is decently done. Not the best I've ever heard but still made for an engaging listen. All in all, I would highly recommend this book for any fan of the genre.

Entertaining space commando story

The story follows an elite space commando group and their latest recruit, Helga. The mission doesn't go according to plan and suspicions of a potential conspiracy start to emerge.
It's a good and entertaining story with the right amount of drama. The author doesn't hit us over the head with too many explanations, trying to hold our hand, things develop over the whole story and you get bits and pieces of the story's universe and its history.
The narrator does a great job giving the characters easily distinguishable voices and therefore makes it easy to follow along.
Will probably look at getting the sequels.

A Good Military Space Opera

I got this book after browsing a list of sci-fi choices on offer as free audiobook review copies. I haven't read a lot of military sci-fi and want to get into this genre a little more. I took the opportunity to request a free copy and am now leaving my voluntary review.

This book, which is the first of a series, starts off with the world-building for this universe. In this one humans, along with a few other species, have been fighting a long war with an enemy they call the 'lizards'. The lizards are a humanoid species that are bent on conquering the known universe, and have a predilection for human brains. The Nighthowks, an elite marine force, go on a rescue mission to save a human colony from the lizards, which goes all wrong. Later, we understand the corruption that causes this mission to fail.

The world-building is good, if a bit slow. The first 8-9 chapters are slightly tedious. At first Helga, the POV during most of the book, seems a bit whine-y. After that, though, the action and intrigue get started and the story flows better. There is a mysterious element of intrigue that, while part of it gets resolved, will be an over-arching theme in this series. The author has written a good concluding spot for this first book in the series. I mention this because I have a pet peeve for some authors' propensity to end their books in cliff-hangers or just plain cut the story off right in the middle of the action. The story features some great military action, both hand-to-hand and space battles. There's lots to like if you're a fan of space action.

The narration by Cari Scholtens is excellent. She gives a unique voice to all the characters and infuses the meaning of the text into her interpretation. This was my first time listening to this author, but I definitely will be watching out for more from Ms.Scholtens.

I recommend the story. It's a solid military space opera offering.
