About this listen

Peyton Davis is part rancher, part federal prosecutor, and all Texan. Strong and steady, she's known for keeping her cool in every situation, but when she meets the beautiful and accomplished heiress to the Gantry oil fortune, she falls fast and hard. When she learns her new assignment is to investigate the Gantry family's business, her entire belief system will be tested.

Lily Gantry leads a privileged and protected life and she has no idea it's all about to blow up in her face. What she does know is that the striking rancher she met at the Cattle Baron's Ball has the potential to steal her heart. Will she feel the same way when she finds out Peyton Davis's investigation threatens not only her family's fortune, but the very foundation of her identity?

Seriously, didn't like it. I couldn't get past the narrator. 1st she sounded like the characters are in their 40's and older. Peyton was too rough, Lilly...just squeaky and horrible voice, just could not listen past chapter 3...I'm sorry. I LOVE Carsen Taite books and this was truly my first disappointment!!

Narrator can really make or break a book

Peyton Davis is a federal prosecutor and a rancher returning to Texas to help her family ranch and a new job. First night back she meets Lily Gantry at the Cattlemen’s Ball. Lily is heiress to Gantry Oil and Peyton is investigating her father. Will love win out or will a drug cartel take down their world? Great start to series.

I really liked the story. The family drama and issues it caused. Loved the characters. Cannot wait to read second part.
Not sure why, but I was not a fan of the narrator vice. It might be just me.

Awesome story

And the narrator of this book was not good, she has a great voice but when she presented Lily, her voice was childish un real, the more i listened the less I liked the book... if you can’t give a believable voice just narrate with the same voice better than creating a sound that is annoying...

Some times the book is good or bad because of the narrator

The performer was horrible. she had a kind of high pitched uppity voice for one of the main characters that made it really hard tui listen to. the story seemed good though I think I would have liked it if it'd read the kindle version instead.

I bet the book was better

I liked the story, not too in-depth but kept me interested. Was a little predictable, but overall I really enjoyed it the whole time. Just the kind of audiobook I needed to get romantic and kill time.
Reader is well paced but a little off when it comes to expressing emotions or reactions

I liked it

I nearly gave up on this because of the screechy way the narrator voiced Lily. I kept with it because the story is interesting.

Intriguing story

Very superficial story. Characters have no depth. The relationship with Lilly and Payton was like wham bam thank you mam. The characters have very little personality. Sad this could have been a great book if the author took more time rushed less. Then the narrator failed to capture Lilly’s voice. Made her sound like an air-head and annoying.

Off putting
