Story
This powerful and haunting memoir details the years Paula McLain and her two sisters spent as foster children after being abandoned by both parents in California in the early 1970s. As wards of the State, the sisters spent the next 14 years moving from foster home to foster home. The dislocations, confusions, and odd pleasures of an unrooted life form the basis of one of the most compelling memoirs in recent years - a book in the tradition of Jo Ann Beard's The Boys of My Youth and Mary Karr's The Liars' Club.

Story
Krys Malcolm Belc has thought a lot about the interplay between parenthood and gender. As a nonbinary, transmasculine parent, giving birth to his son Samson clarified his gender identity. And yet, when his partner Anna adopted Samson, the legal documents listed Belc as "the natural mother of the child." The Natural Mother of the Child journeys both toward and through common perceptions of what it means to have a body and how that body can influence the perception of a family.

fun and easy way to learn Yoruba
Before I never heard about the Yoruba language, but I enjoyed learning since I'm into learning new languages. I always wanted to visit Africa and I have more reason to go soon. It was nice this book introduced the culture and Yoruba language. It was also good to hear their English words and then Yoruba words. I think it is great to listen to this book while you drive and also before you sleep. Some of the words I've learned are stuck in my head. It is really effective!

very informative
This is, in my experience as a linguist, the most helpful audiobook for learning Yoruba. It is helpful in enforcing the precise pronunciation of the Yoruba language spoken by native speakers, which enables the listener to blend in as if they were a native and to be readily understood.
via listening to it, I have been able to turn a short-term retention of Yoruba vocabulary terms into a long-term recall with English or Yoruba prompts. This was accomplished via systematic repetition.
This is an essential audiobook to have.

Fascinating and fun!
I absolutely LOVE languages. I grew up in a very diverse area (there were 80 different cultures represented in my grade school) and have lived traveling through many continents for most of my adult life. I am fascinated by both the similarities and differences between neighboring languages, dialects, how they were influenced by other colonial languages, etc.
When I learn languages I appreciate learning them from natives and as children learn. Learning about a language (how it works, etc) is also helpful and complimentary. This audiobook does a great job and is a lot of fun. I'm also glad I have it to revisit over and over again because you have to repeat repeat and repeat to make things stick. I'm excited to throw some Yoruba at my Nigerian friend and watch their face!

A Useful Tool for Proficiency
This book is a valuable tool for learning the African language for beginners. The method will create memory paths which is the starting point for learning the language essentials. You also utilize muscle memory physically that involves your mouth and tongue. The various areas of learning include counting basic numbers from one to twenty, naming many common food items such as fruits and vegetables, and emotions, colors, and words associated with school and days of the week. You will have a foundation to then more easily learn grammar and structure of sentences. There is a download PDF to assist as well. As you become fluid with vocabulary through repetition and memorization you will be on track to understand and be understood in fuller sentences. Your proficiencies will allow you to further learn grammar, verbs and more clearly communicating with native speakers. Use this recurringly to benefit as it’s designed.

A LOT OF USEFUL INFORMATION
In my experience as a linguist, this audiobook is the most beneficial for learning Yoruba. It aids in imposing the exact pronunciation of the Yoruba language used by native speakers, allowing the listener to sound natural and be easily heard.
I was able to transform my short-term memory of Yoruba vocabulary words into a long-term memory with English or Yoruba prompts by listening to it. This was achieved through deliberate repetition.
Having this audiobook is a necessity.
