This title is exactly what I needed to help me overcome my own personal toxicity to myself. I didn't even realize I was doing that, which made this book so much more impactful to me. The author provided real-life examples of other women who have gone through these struggles, how it impacted them, and how they were able to overcome them through positive self-talk and self-love. I admit it is very hard to change my way of thinking, but this book is helping me do so. The narrator did a great job of portraying these stories and providing us with the phrases and tone of self-love and self-talk. Highly recommend this book!

Highly Inspiring and Valuable!

This was an amazing read. I was able to open the door on some unpacking that I haven’t done in decades of therapy.

I really enjoyed the journal prompt portion of every chapter.

My only complaint about the book is being a light skinned black woman with “good” hair. I couldn’t find me. And I understand that society has given us passes that most of us don’t want. This develops another type of trauma because we’re not white but it almost seems like we’re not black enough.

I’m honestly being asked what am I ? As if I have to be mixed with another culture. But both of my parents are black.

But all in all it was still extremely enjoyable and enli. And I’ve already purchased my second Nya Love book.

I understood the message

I'll start by saying the narrator was fantastic and sounded relaxed yet authoritative. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how it defined the true meaning of self love and discerned the differences between self love and self care. Furthermore, it was scientifically based and really helped to delve into the deeper spectrum of self and how the ability to love oneself starts very early on in life through experiences. It touched on racial disparity and how being Black had a sort of underlying impact on us as Black women. I highly recommend this book.

This book has caused me to look deeply within myself and discover some characteristics I didn’t know existed. More importantly, I was able to return to my roots and review how the parenting styles of my mother and grandmother impacted me.

In contemporary society, black women juggle myriad roles and often sacrifice themselves for others. This book is truly inspirational and freeing, covering a whole gamut of factors, including childhood wounds, racial trauma, low self-esteem and others. It made me realise that I wasn’t engaged in self-love and presented strategies for change.

If you are keen to liberate yourself from past trauma (even those you don’t know are there), grab this book and embark on a path of empowerment and fulfilment.
