About this listen

As parents, we want to safeguard our children from the pressures and influences of the world but also prepare them for age-appropriate realities. How do we find that balance? Jessica Smartt shares ways to be more aware, engaged, proactive, creative, and protective, but also adventurous with our kids.

Let Them Be Kids is Jessica’s offering of grace and confidence to moms, giving us practical ideas to meet the challenge. Her well-researched, tested methods, woven together with her personal stories and witty humor, deliver wisdom on tough topics, such as:

  • Balancing family time vs. outside activities,
  • The gift of being awkward and uncool,
  • Managing technology,
  • Protecting purity,
  • Showing grace when kids disobey,
  • And more.

Part story, part guidebook, every chapter includes doable strategies and encouragement for the journey, equipping moms with ways to provide a safe, healthy, Christ-centered upbringing for our children.

If you want to conquer fear and find the truth that transforms entire families, Let Them Be Kids shows us that it’s not only possible but essential to enjoy every special moment of building family values together. And it serves as a gentle reminder that, someday, we’ll be very glad that we did.

I read this book as part of a group with other mamas.
It was so refreshing and real. It helped us in areas where we were struggling as parents and gave us great tips. I highly recommend even if you think things are ok with your kids.

As a counselor and parent, I’ve been inundated with parenting materials. This has by far been my favorite. The heart and mission of parenting emanates from the pages. I laughed, cried, felt seen, and was challenged by this work. Thank you!

I’ve read a lot of books on parenting, but this is the first one to bring me to tears. The author does such a great job of identifying what makes a childhood magical and pointing to ways you can give that gift to your children. I am very very thankful for this lovely read.

I feel like I could have written this book—meaning, it resonated with me so much; even all the details! Great observations, stated well and simply regarding the preservation of the good old fashioned human, childhood, and family.

An excellent read on being a good human
