Journey of Discovery and Self-Help
Looking for joy and serenity? Diagnosed with a variety of mental illnesses, this self-help book provides some insight into achieving success through the use of twelve specific skills, some practice, and open-mindedness. It is hoped that the listener will discover the authentic you, your passion, and your purpose.
The author, Anthony Braaten, provides the listener with key steps to discovering the person you are meant to be. He helps you find ways to become stronger and search deep within yourself to discover the “you” that has been hiding or frightened to be present. He also provides some practice exercises and sound coaching ideas. His advice is rooted in experience and his own journey of discovery.
The narrator, David Shipp, provides a clear and concise performance. His cadence is appropriate for the excitement and ideas being put forth. He alternates between enthusiasm and calmness dependent upon the message being spoken. I found his performance to be captivating and drew me into the book. His tone was engaging.
Overall, this is a self-help book and I am not a fan of these types of books at all. HOWEVER, my son is going through some deep personal issues that I found some of the advice Anthony provided in the book fit his situation! I was able to calm my 40-year-old son down and engage him in some of the exercises Braaten shared. As a self-help book, this one is a must-listen. Not only will it help those dealing with mental illness issues but those that they rely on for support.
