Publisher's summary

Lieutenant is the third in a series of near-future sci-fi thrillers whose young heroine, Ell Donsaii, we learned in Quicker has a nerve mutation that makes her an athletic phenomenon, so fast that no one can keep up with her. In Smarter, we learned how these fast nerve processes have made her a genius. She's both shy and concerned about her social skills, yet loved by those around her.

Like Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), while trying to drift off to sleep, instead of counting sheep, Ell does mathematics. Doing this, she develops a new theory of quantum mechanics. She has now dropped out of grad school after using her quantum theories to invent a means for enormously improving communications using entangled molecules.

Back in the military to complete her commitment, she continues her physics research in her spare time. She also has to fend off more attempts to kidnap her by groups wanting access to her skills. As in the past, those who attack her don't consider that the very skills they envy and desire make her hard to subdue.

Then the People's Republic of China shoots down the US satellites over Asia in preparation for an invasion of Taiwan. Ell's quantum entangled communication chips can substitute for lost satellite communications and observation. Can she convince the brass to use them?

Great Series & Excellent MainCharacter

This series has surprised me at how nicely paced and engaging it is. It subverts a lot of the UA/New Adult fiction and I can’t wait to hear the next installment.

The story continues

this is yet another fun young adult book. I especially love the science used in all of these stories. Mister Dahners makes his writing's believable using no magic bullets. Thus making the story seemingly plausible and keeps the reader or listener fully engaged.
Laura Bannister does an excellent narration easily drawing in the audience as the story continues.
I own every Kindle edition in this series and all of the Audibles put out so far. In point of fact each month I check for any new releases in Audible or Kindle for that matter

Thank you Laurence and Laura for your excellent work.

Amazing listen

This audiobook is one of the best I have ever listened to. Besides the amazing way Laurence portrayed the thrilling scenes in the army, the narrator was also on point. Definitely recommend.

Please find another narrator

Good story spoiled by dreadful narration. The narrarot if the first book in the series was much better. This woman has a flat, uninteresting delivery that will most likely drive you nuts. A shame.

Nice

As with others, good story. Starting to strain the believability quotient some but, it is specfic after all. Characters are well developed in the sense that their interactions are substantive and characters exist for more that just moving the plot forward, but shallow in the sense that there is little to no backstory for any of them, even the protagonist has little backstory except that her parents were good athletes, mom is a teacher but we have only seen her as wait staff. Step dad is an ass (and there is generally one, arrogant bad male in every episode, so far now femme baddies). I’m still a little worried about the consistent portrayal of non-whites (with exception of black 1st line characters). Bad guys are all either east or west Asian. Well see what develops.

Love the series. Don’t love the emo, breathy-voiced narrator.

Simple, but so am I

I really have been enjoying this series! I still don't like it when the main character is self-effacing and refuses to take deadly action when someone is trying to kill her!

Also, I don't care for the author's adding a romantic aspect to the story, I suspect that the author has young daughters and understands their thoughts about men! 😁

I am very happy that the author doesn't have the main character jumping into bed with guys! 👍

I enjoy a strong, super intelligent young woman and this story continues in that vein!

I would give it zero stars if I could.

Like fairy tales? I don't. The heroine is the finest mind since Einstein, an Olympic medalist, a stunning beauty and receives over 2 billion dollars a year in royalties for an invention. Oh, and she's 18 years old. Of course, she single handedly averts war with China. I wanted to puke.
