About this listen

Darcie Wilder's Literally Show Me a Healthy Person is a careful confession soaking in saltwater, a size B control top jet black pantyhose dragged over a skinned knee and slipped into unlaced doc martens. Blurring the lines of the written word, Literally Show Me a Healthy Person is a portrait of a young girl, or woman, or something; grappling with the immediate and seemingly endless urge to document and describe herself and the world around her. Dealing with the aftermath of her mother's death, her father's neglect, and the chaotic unspoken expectations around her, this novel is a beating heart at the intersection of literature, poetry, and the Internet. Darcie Wilder elevates and applies direct pressure, but the wound never stops bleeding.

I really hope people keep recording books like this. It's definitely better than actors reading silly stories with silly voices. MORE MORE MORE

This book is so damn good. It's a chaotic stream of consciousness, hammered out on an iPhone and curated into a shameless confessional.

A Steam of Conscious

I was so confused the entire book and the tone of the person reading made it uncomfortable and hard to understand. 😬

Dude WTF

Would you listen to Literally Show Me a Healthy Person again? Why?

Enjoyed the hell out of this. Listened to this with my friends on a road trip and we were laughing the whole way through. Deadpan comedy at it's finest.

Darcie Wilder is brilliant!

Experimental and very much of its time circa 2017 when twitter was at its peak perhaps? And thus the writing is similar in that vein, in the form of tweets/thoughts/facts, auto fiction that slowly but surely becomes a modern day novel where one’s attention span is often limited to the present despite how the past keeps coming back and the future is far from enticing but coming regardless of how we feel about it.

I listened to the audiobook because the author is the narrator and it does wonders when trying to get a grasp in the beginning, of how this book should be read in a way… I was engaged and very much felt the funny moments as well as the moments that are all too real and felt if we’re only honest with ourselves and tell it as it is.

Experimental writing at its best!

This audiobook kind of takes me back to a place where I once existed mentally and physically in a way that’s hard to describe so I won’t. And for all the talk about sentimentality being detrimental, I just like it.

Makes me feel kind of alive
