About this listen

Nondescript "good girl" Miss Camellia Grenville only ever opens her mouth when forced to sing at her family's musicales. That is, until the night she infiltrates the ton's most scandalous masquerade ball on behalf of her sister, and finds herself in the arms - and the bed - of the one man she'd sworn to hate.

Irresistibly arrogant and unapologetically sensuous, infamous rake Lord Wainwright always gets his way. When he accepts a wager to turn his rakish image respectable in just 40 days, he never anticipates falling for an anonymous masked lover...or that discovering her identity would destroy them both.

In the Rogues to Riches historical romance series, Cinderella stories aren't just for princesses... Sigh-worthy Regency rogues sweep strong-willed young ladies into whirlwind romance with rollicking adventure.

Great story and performance

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Camellia and Wainwright’s story. A lord trying to stay out of the scandal sheets to win a bet. A lady trying to have some fun before she must head to the alter of an unwanted marriage. She also loves to sing but becoming an opera singer is just not done without repercussions. They meet at a masquerade and do not know who each other is, which leads to their chance at finding what they really want in life.

Charming

I’m reading more than one series by Erica Ridley, and I really enjoy her sense of humor. I thought this particular story had a couple of gaps in the mental arguments each character had, but overall still very well-written.

The narrator served the story and humor well, and has a lovely tone.

Well-written, well-developed characters

I enjoyed this book much more that some of the others in this series. The characters were much more interesting, especially the sisters. The mother was even a bit more likeable. ER really does spin a fine tale....and this one kept my interest. Her dialogue is still unrealistic and weak, but much better than in her other books. Marian Hussey did a pretty good job.

Not what you expect by the title

A handsome face and a mouth that always seems to insult instead of compliment makes for one very misunderstood Earl. A mousy exterior with a temper and plain looks make our heroine just as misunderstood. There are so many other colorful characters not a page is wasted on this book. You will not be bored. Our Earl is not as he is labeled by all who are supposed to know him.

Very entertaining.

The two main characters, Camillia and Wainwright, are two people who wish to make a change in their lives. Camellia wishes she could be bolder instead of the dutiful daughter she has always been. She always puts others before herself. Camillia's sisters are more outspoken and at times outrageous but they all have a love for each other. Their interactions were engaging. The mother is absolutely dreadful! Wainwright is attempting to mend his rakish ways. He meets Camellia at the masquerade and they develop feelings for each other but will this last when they discover each other's identity. Marion Hussey is an excellent narrator, her voice is easy to listen to and she certainly brings the characters to life. I spent a very enjoyable time listening to this story. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it.

An amazing story!

This audio book is one of the most amazing stories spoken! Erica Ridley's wonderful story brought to life by the melodic voice of Marian Hussey is truly a masterpiece!

Ms. Hussey speaks with clarity and never too fast or slow. The tempo of her speech is perfection.

This is one of the best performed books I have ever heard!

Always a pleasure

The characters are well-drawn, the plot contrived but credible and the narration smooth and enjoyable. I'm not a fan of bodice-rippers, so it is refreshing that what voyarism is included in the story (even if prolonged) serves to advance the plot. I particularly like that sets of books examine similar time frames from different perspectives. That is similar to the device Lawrence Durrell used to great effect in the Alexandrian Quartet. Altogether a diverting pleasure.

Behind the Mask

Where do you find the love of your life? Why at the most decadent masquerade in London, of course. When Michael and Camellia meet at the masquerade as Lord and Lady X, they like each other. Each has discovered someone to talk to and be comfortable with, a friend. Outside in real life - not so much. Camellia and her sisters do not like Lord Wainwright (his reputation, you know). Lord Wainwright has never even noticed Camellia. That’s going to change. Michael and Camellia’s story is full of soul searching and humor. The story line is simple and fun. The main characters, actually all of the characters, are loveable and real. The two younger sisters are delightful. You will love discovering if Michael wins his wager, if Camellia follows her dream, and if the Earl can convince the “mousy” Grenville girl to become his Countess.

I enjoy listening to Marion Hussey. Her narration is wonderful, and her voices spot on. In the scene when Mama informed Camellia of her impending betrothal, Marion Hussey made her sound arrogant, prissy, and giddy (all at the same time) while delivering her “good news.”

Lord of Pleasure is indeed a pleasure.

Enchanting...

Eat your heart out Cinderella, you've just met your match. Camellia is a late bloomer, but when she breaks free her wallflower status quickly falls by the wayside. A masquerade ball, a sexy rake, a scandalous wager and liaison take her from the shadows to the spotlight. Her heart and reputation will never be the same. Lord of Pleasure dances it way into a classic as it scandalizes and romances as it succeeds in casting an enchanting spell.
