About this listen

Sunny Los Angeles can be a dark place indeed in Cassandra Clare's Lord of Shadows, the sequel to the number-one New York Times and USA Today best-selling Lady Midnight. Lord of Shadows is a Shadowhunters novel.

Emma Carstairs has finally avenged her parents. She thought she'd be at peace. But she is anything but calm. Torn between her desire for her parabatai Julian and her desire to protect him from the brutal consequences of parabatai relationships, she has begun dating his brother, Mark. But Mark has spent the past five years trapped in Faerie; can he ever truly be a Shadowhunter again?

And the faerie courts are not silent. The Unseelie King is tired of the Cold Peace and will no longer concede to the Shadowhunters' demands. Caught between the demands of faerie and the laws of the Clave, Emma, Julian, and Mark must find a way to come together to defend everything they hold dear - before it's too late.

Lost

I had no idea what I was expecting. It was quite slow at the start and towards the end it gets better. I read Chain of Iron just before this and I'll say, I prefer that to this. I've heard people say Cassie's 2nd books are usually one of the best in a series but I dont rmb much City of something,😅 City of Lost Souls (only rmb being so annoyed) and Clockwork Prince (blank). The narrator is quite good at making the different voices, though I do get confused sometimes, especially towards the end.

Great next instalment

Would you consider the audio edition of Lord of Shadows to be better than the print version?

Yes - I have both editions and enjoyed the audio far more because of the amazing narration by James Marsters

What did you like best about this story?

That it continued the mortal instruments world with another shadow hunter family

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

His ability to give a voice to each character and take on many accents was utterly engaging. He is a fantastic actor and I truly hope that he gets to narrate the next instalments and many more.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, a character discovering the the part desperation played in his relationship - it was such an enlightening part showcasing the complexities of some relationships

Any additional comments?

This is a good addition and expansion for the shadow hunter world progressing on from the Mortal Instruments which I loved, but not as much as The Infernal Devices which is my favourite Cassandra Clare series. If you are new to the shadow hunter world start at the Infernal Devices, if you have read them and the Mortal Instruments, read on and enjoy.

Fantastic book, if only one thing could change

Fantastic story, the only thing that would have made it better & flow from book one to book two, is if the narrator had stayed the same.

Holy hell - litterally

After being wowed over and over by the immortal instruments and the infurno devices, how is it possible to reach even further? Through Cassandra Claire's brilliance, she has managed to not only pull off 3 amazing series but strategically bring this world to it's knees using all storielines as her guide to keep them all conected. The amazing thing about all books, is they never feel rushed as if the writer is in a hurry to get to the end. She lets her characters development into themselves creating remarkable and beautiful characters you come to love or hate. . Lord of shadows is no exception and once again am still in awe and can't wait for what Cassandra has in store for the shadow hunters next given this shocking ending in preperation for the next.. Just when you think, there may be respite, a happy ending, she catches you off guard which is part of what a truly talented author can do. If you're into a quick and catchy book, this is not for yu but if you have the patience to let this world in, you will not be disappointed. As for what's coming...I'm not even gonna try guess but know it will be yet another masterpiece.
