Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

A relationship expert and dating columnist shares her counterintuitive approach to lasting love: encouraging women to date their "non-types". After years of dating, many women fall into relationship ruts. As serial daters, they are attracted to the same type of man time and again. Clearly something's not working. But the problem is not that he's just not that into them - the reality is he's just not their type.

If you are separated, read this, if you aren’t, read this
I didn’t get hold of this book until a year after separating, and reading it I realised I could have handled my ex and my kids so much smarter than I did. Regardless, the wisdom and practical suggestions in this book are worth their weight in gold for anyone in relationship, anyone out of relationship, and anyone searching for relationship.

I’m proof this works
In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a member of the author’s Facebook group mentioned in the acknowledgments. And there’s a reason I’m a fan:
This works.
I am a single mom. I have been married and divorced twice within 10 years, and had a son with each of my two previous marriages. One son just left for college, and my second son still lives with me full-time.
My “man-picker” was broken. My second husband turned out to be abusive. Nearly all the red flags of an abuser provided in “Love Factually for Single Parents” were there, but I didn’t have that information. We aren’t taught in school how to spot potentially abusive partners, and most of us aren’t taught at home either, until after the damage is done.
After implementing the steps in Dr. Welch’s first book, and continuing to follow the science in her second book, I was privileged to date a few wonderful men before landing on the happiest relationship of my life. The ring is already bought and a proposal is being planned, and we are house-shopping together. I never would have even said “yes” to a date with the man I am deliriously and happily in love with now before reading “Love Factually”. And he has proven to be one of the most trustworthy and reliable people I’ve ever met.
This was not the first proposal I received since following Dr. Welch’s research. This is the third. And with the first two, both good men, I was able to determine they weren’t the right match for me and my kids and turned them down - probably avoiding a third divorce and another in a long string of heart-aches.
The science of human mating isn’t always fair, but this is what works.
“Love Factually for Single Parents” is an excellent supplement to “Love Factually”. This book addresses how to set boundaries around any interactions with your children or the children of those you’re dating, how to arrange “sleep overs”, and how to deal with exes - yours and your dates.
There are answers to tough questions like:
“Do I need to be ‘happy with myself’ before I can start dating again?”
“Where are all the good men/women?”
“Should we move in together before getting married?”
“What if my kids hate him/her?”
Dr. Welch provides exercises at each step, so you can practice scripts for the hardest part of dating, from crafting your online dating profile to breaking up with integrity and kindness. Yeah, maybe the exercises are hokey, and they still work.
I bought a copy of this book for my recently-divorced Single-Mom friend, and a copy of the original “Love Factually” for my college-aged son in the hopes that they can avoid the heartache and wasted time from the mistakes I made and find long-lasting, fulfilling love.
It works.

phenomenal work
This is a very dense book full of goto exercises to find a heathly loving partner, while remaining safe.
Self narration by the author is witty, compassionate and at times riveting.
I'd recommend for anyone that longs for love, and happens to be a single, divorced or widowed parent.
