About this listen

Navigating the challenges of long-term commitment takes effort - and it just got simpler, with this empowering, step-by-step guide to communicating about the things that matter most to you and your partner. Drawing on 40 years of research from their world-famous Love Lab, Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman invite couples on eight fun, easy, and profoundly rewarding dates, each one focused on a make-or-break issue: trust, conflict, sex, money, family, adventure, spirituality, and dreams.

Interactive activities and prompts provide motivation to stay open, stay curious, and, most of all, stay talking to each other. And the range - from the four skills you need for intimate conversation (including Put into Words What You Are Feeling) to tips on being honest about your needs, while also validating your partner’s own emotions - will resonate, whether you’re newly together or a longtime couple looking to fortify your bond. You will discover (or rediscover) your partner like never before - and be able to realize your hopes and dreams for the love you desire and deserve.

I disagrees with the homosexual relationship examples, as it goes against the will of God and sets a bad example to the listeners.

The habits of successful couples and the in-depth questions that was proposed.

One of the best, if not the best relationship books I’ve read so far. Highly recommend to anyone whether single, dating or married.

Excellent read!

I loved some of the questions and conversations. I really enjoyed all of the science and statistics and stories of real life couples. Some of the conversation ideas seem really cheesy, but they might be really helpful to some people. I do recommend this book to find new ways to connect to your partner.

Great food for thought

The book has great suggestions and questions that most certainly will help your relationship grow.
However I don't agree with the premise that no matter how different you are from your partner, you can make a commited relationship work. When two people are very different, it's so difficult to find joy doing activities together. It's better to find someone that already has common interests.

Great suggestions for improving relationships.

the section on listening would be good guidelines for ANY relationship. mostly, as I was listening I wondered at what point during marriage or other serious relationship does enmeshment occur and we see our partner as an extension of yourself rather than an individual. this book is a great reminder and practical guide on how to maintain or restore individuality among couples. I'll be listening to it many times over because it is both a quick, interesting read and because there is something new to learn every time.

very informational and insightful
