About this listen
Dogs are the most social animals on the planet, second only to humans in their ability to read and understand emotion. Even chimps and bonobos, our closest genetic relatives, are no match for dogs when it comes to social cognition.
Jennifer Arnold understands this better than anyone, having spent the past 25 years training service dogs for people with disabilities at Canine Assistants. She is a pioneer in the emerging field of "bond-based" dog training, and her methods have overturned the conventional wisdom, which holds that dogs must learn to obey external cues like "sit", "stay", and "heel." In contrast, Arnold's groundbreaking methodology, bond-based choice teaching, rests on the belief that dogs are social learners, and they can be taught to make choices and interpret what we want from them, as opposed to simply following commands.

Story
Generations of dogs have been labeled training lemons for requiring actual motivation when all along they were perfectly normal. Numerous other completely and utterly normal dogs have been branded as canine misfits simply because they grew up to act like dogs. Barking, chewing, sniffing, licking, jumping up, and occasionally (just like people) having arguments are as normal and natural for dogs as wagging tails and burying bones.

Story
World-renowned trainer Sean O’Shea, owner and founder of The Good Dog Training and Rehabilitation, saw some recurring themes consistently derailing the human/dog relationship. Sean discovered that countless trainers and owners were struggling to not only understand these issues but to put clear, concise, easy-to-understand words to them. The Good Dog Way: Love Them by Leading Them, fills that incredibly important gap. Until its release, dog training books almost exclusively focused on training mechanics, commands, and rules, but had missed the all-important "why".

Story
Few of us meet our dogs at Day One. The dog who will eventually become an integral part of our family, our constant companion, and our best friend is born without us into a family of her own. A puppy's critical early development into the dog we come to know is usually missed entirely. Dog researcher Alexandra Horowitz aimed to change that with her family's new pup, Quiddity (Quid). In this scientific memoir she charts Quid's growth from wee grub to boisterous sprite, from her birth to her first birthday.

If you could sum up Love Is All You Need in three words, what would they be?
Bonding over Force. As I continue to learn and work with my dog - a very, very smart Belgian Tervuren - I am surprised everyday by her willingness to do the right things. She isn't perfect and neither am I. We're a great team. What was one of the most memorable moments of Love Is All You Need?
There were several. The one that made me laugh out loud was "Quit Acting Like Your Father's People". Having your dog act out or go crazy barking when she's not a barker must be similar to children having meltdowns in stores. It totally fits. There are days. ... :-)What about Jennifer Arnold’s performance did you like?
Love the southern twang! If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Have to give this more thought!Any additional comments?
I find as my bond gets stronger with my dog the easier it is for she and I to work together. Hang out together - practice walking, playing, stopping, starting, staying and going 'easy'. Despite some of my ignorance when she was a puppy she has turned out great. If I take a deep breath and wait frustration fades and we get back to doing whatever we were doing.I love her and she loves me right back.

Not to mention this is the best relationship I've ever had with a dog is educating this way. To get the most out of this book, I'd recommend you start with her earliest books and work up to this philosophic paradigm shift. This book will help you understand, part of the future of Canine Assistants Service Dog process.
