"Suspense at a breakneck pace. Delaine demonstrates her talents as a narrator through realistic portrayals of a dizzying cast of male and female characters, both criminals and cops." — AudioFile Magazine

When she's called to the murder scene, the last thing San Francisco Homicide detective Valerie Hart is expecting is for Katherine Glass to walk back into her life. Six years earlier, revulsion and fascination had gripped the nation in equal measure, as beautiful, intelligent, charming—and utterly evil—Katherine Glass had been convicted on six counts of Murder One. But the freshly-mutilated corpse in the ground-floor apartment bears all the hallmarks of Katherine's victims. And then there's the note, with its chilling implications. Addressed to Valerie.

To stop the slaughter, Valerie has no choice. She must ask Katherine Glass to help her decipher the killer's twisted message. But that means re-entering the pitch-black labyrinth that is Katherine's mind, and this time Valerie isn't so sure which one of them will survive.

Sophomore slump

This is a good story. Predictable in a lot of ways and not nearly as captivating as its predecessor. I feel we missed out on some moments that could have been and were even set up to explore but where passed over anyway. Hopefully the third installment is stronger. Still worth your time if you enjoyed the first book.

Deus Ex Machina

Overall I liked the story, it kept my interest. I feel like the story had a lot of filler in some spots, notably any conversation involving Squash or Jailhouse Visits. These were done to flesh out the characters, yes, but man they could have done the work with half the time. Any direct conversation with Katherine Glass made me want to gouge out my own eye, the character was insufferable, but as she would say, I digress. The whole thing wrapped up in the last 22 minutes very quickly and abruptly thanks to the well-placed Deus Ex Machina. I would like to hear more Valerie Hart stories but if the ending of this suggests the plot of the next one, I'll pass on it. Worth the credit and a good continuation from this author.

So greatly diabolical!

I absolutely adored Kathryn the brilliant murderous psychopath. I would love to see this made into a film! The narrator is outstanding. What a fun ride!

Great narrator and stoty. Must listen.

Rarely do I did a great voice to tell a story. This narrator hits the mark. The story is has great info regarding real, before our time writers, to tie into the story.

A bit predictable

I finished the first Val book and then immediately started this one - felt a bit predictable and repetitive. Still a bone chilling listen!

Give me a break!!!

I loved the first book - but this 2nd book just irritated me to distraction. The unnecessary sexual deprivation descriptions - going on and on as if we cannot completely understand unless it takes u a whole chapter.

The long drawn out monologue of the psychopath Katherine Glass - OH MY GOD - and it could have been intentional - but I cannot listen to someone go on and on...and on and on....about themselves, especially the need to describe their childhood mast urbanization practices, again, for an entire chapter, droning on and on. (Note my run-on sentence - the book is FULL OF THEM).

The dialogue was painful, I kept waiting for it to get better, to become intelligent - but with only 5-hrs remaining I GIVE UP!!! And, Saul Black is so very obviously intelligent - so why go down this road??

Not sure I will attempt another Saul Black book after this.

Narrator is excellent!
