About this listen

The acclaimed author of Gone Without a Trace returns with a new novel of twisting psychological suspense in which a woman is forced to face down her blackmailer.

Someone's been sending Gemma compromising photos. Photos she doesn't remember posing for. She can't recall much about that night during a work conference - she'd written off her headache the next morning as the result of too much drinking at the hotel bar. But then increasingly disturbing photos start appearing in her email, along with bills and other items she can't account for. As the blackmailer grows bolder and events start to escalate beyond her control, Gemma fears for her already shaky marriage and worries that the truth of what really happened that night must be more twisted than she imagines.

Unable to go to the police for fear that she will lose her family, Gemma resolves to hunt down the blackmailer on her own. But not everyone in Gemma's life is who they seem, and as she gets closer to the truth, she discovers just how far the shadows from her past can reach.

I think I like the Scottish accent, the best! The story was good and kept me interested.

Kept me guessing

It was a slow burn at first and I almost lost interest, but it gained traction and never slowed down. A great story, and very unpredictable. There were times when it was mildly frustrating that the main character isn’t being honest with her husband about some things, but I got over that. *Trigger warning for SA survivors.

Unpredictable for sure

This is the 3rd book I’ve listened to by this author. The start to this one was a little slow & I was concerned it might not be suspenseful enough to keep me interested. The slow start quickly rolled into a very good book with just enough details to paint the picture & keep me tuned in. Loved it!

Great Read

All I can say is wow! Kept me listening until the end. I made up reason to be in my car to listen to this book!

Super good book

Very enjoyable book. I thought certain things that happened seemed pretty unlikely, but that's true with lots of stories. I stayed very involved and enjoyed the way the story turned out too

Really good

This book is absolutely amazing. Very well written and keeps you guessing. I typically guess pretty quickly “who did it” but I was completely wrong at the beginning. A lot of unexpected twists. Narrator was great as well!

Phenomenal

It’s amazing how this author took an interesting premise and turned into boring, repetitive mind chatter. I am three hours in and all the main character does is drone on and on about the same topic. One event happens and the main character is just dissecting this event in her mind. Hardly anything is happening and for every small interaction she has, she spends too much time thinking about.

I am not enjoying the narrator either. She uses the same cadence throughout and it really amplifies how boring this story is to hear.

I won’t be finishing this story.
