About this listen

Cassandra James thinks she has her place in the world all figured out. But an unexpected betrayal forces her to ask if her "free black girl" vibe is a myth, or worse, a mask to hide herself from the world.

Bam Mosley, keyboardist for the alt-soul band The Prototype, knows who he is. He just wants to make good music and see the people he cares about win.

Then he meets her.

Sure, Cassandra is gorgeous and smart, with hypnotic eyes, but his bandmate's sister wasn't supposed to be this...disruptive and break down all his defenses.

She sees what he hides from everyone else. He allows her to take off her mask.

But is their connection powerful enough to survive life's low notes? Or maybe the true test of love is knowing when to let go....

Amazing!

I actually listened to Loving Cassie first in this series and loved it. I just went back through from beginning to end with all 4 books and I loved it even more. You really get to know Bam throughout the series and he became my absolute favorite. The way he continuously covers everyone with his sweet gentleness kept me swooning. This is a must read series that dealt beautifully with mental health issues. Jakobi and Wesleigh are amazing and second to none at bringing these stories to life.

Soulful Writing

This author moves beyond telling a story and expresses experiences of the characters through heartfelt and some time gut wrenching writing.

The story engrosses the listeners into the lives of these characters who seem more like people you know.

Jacinta Howard writes from the soul, not just from the imagination.

The series is a whole vibe, having me Googling certain music references and as a wordsmith, looking up specific words.

The narrators are the two best in the game. GOAT(s).

I loved being in their lives of PROTOTYPE.

Not Sure They're Ready!!

So the book itself was good and the narration great between Wesleigh and Jacobi as always. Sometimes I need to know the time lapse of these stories, I'm not sure these two should be together. Bam is quite impatient and always wants his way and Cassie is just a hot mess. If secrets and jealousy had a name it would be Cassie. I was ok with how it ended, but are they really ready? I'm not sure....

Loved it!

I inhaled every book in this series. I love love, young love especially. The author does a great job peeling back the layers of the personalities in this book and the others. If you want to smile at the end of a story then the Prototype series is it!

A must read!

I don't even know where to start. This story hit so deep. There's something about black love written by black authors then recorded by black narrators that just hits different. When I say Jacinta Howard owes me nothing.
If you're out of credits BUY this one you won't regret it!
Howard writes Bam and Cassies in such a relatable way yet the highs are so high and th lows are low. This is not a book to listen to while distracted.
Some of the subject matter might be triggering for some. *verbal / physical abuse /depression / cutting/ failed pregnancies*
There will be tears, laughs, and some damn good music
HEA no cheating

Awesome!

This series was wonderful!

I fell in love with all of the characters in each book. I laughed, I shed a tear, I was feeling their pain and sorrow. All of the stories were beautiful.
Awesome narrators! Two thumbs up to the author.

Nice weight… books can be read out of order ☺️

Other reviews said the stories are too long, and I disagree. I like longer stories, sets the stage, better character development and I feel like I got my money’s worth!

I like this series because it takes place during the same period of time with four different couples; you get to see some of the same events but from different perspectives. And the author doesn’t cheat by cutting or pasting scenes - I literally saw the same events differently because of the connection with the characters individual stories. You also get updates as the story progresses with each character installment.

Emphatically, the books can be read out of order. I started with the second installment, and I’m so glad I did. If I’d started with Happiness in Jersey, I probably would have quit the series. Not that it wasn’t good, and I did go back and read it later, but the characters in the other books seemed a lot more developed and mature. I wanted to throttle all of the women in the first three installments, but then I considered how the men were able to push through the drama, and I liked that more. Made for better endings…

As always, I will read just about anything Wesleigh and Jakobi narrate - the range of the voice acting knows no bounds! Why do these people not have multiple SOVA awards???

Love it !!! * Warning Long review

The story was GREAT!! Love it tide the waves of emotions it put me through. Ms. Howard this was very refreshingly, emotional, and for me true. I could see me as the character, Cupcake. I, too I’m always too deep in my head, and most time needing to get out of my own way. So Thank you.

Love the narrators, are you both married? Married to each other?? Lovers? This book evoke a lot great emotion from you Wesleigh like I can’t hear your tears. Anyway just curious. I will never look up a picture of either of you because I want you to look like whatever character either of you are describing.
