Publisher's summary

Running away from his feelings is the one race he'll never win....

A star athlete and Olympic prospect, Kal Carter is bound for greatness. Everyone says it, only he's not sure he entirely believes it. Because he's lost something he can't replace, and most days he feels like he's holding up the sky; and doing it all on his own.

To maintain focus, he never lets anyone close except in the most superficial ways, and he's become very good at it. Until a long, cold week when the solitary girl next door who never speaks, smiles, or makes eye contact barges into his life and seems poised to upend the whole doggone thing.

Contains mature themes.

Relatable Young Love

This is my first book from this author and I liked it. These characters, Ash and Kal- were relatable as a young love and the storyline was engaging even with it's complexities. I am not typically a fan of Leon's narration, but he held it down this time. Chandra on the other hand was hit or miss. Some of her narration was decent but some sounded computer generated which was weird.

Great love story

The narration was a bit slow but beside that this book was everything. It brought back memories of my college relationship. I love this story.

Beautifully Written

I love the flow of the story from beginning to end. I love the innocence of Asha and the true nature of Kal. I also love the lesson taught and learned that the truth will set you free, if true to oneself whole heartedly. Great Read! ReneeG

Love it I did truly enjoy it

The story was a good one it makes a good read. It was relatable wish the narrators was more distinct for each character.

Based on the story

The story is a five star affair. It carries the audio version on its back to four stars. The narrators really make the experience less enjoyable. There's very little variation between the voices of characters. There is no drama breathed into the prose or dialogue. Honestly, Javier sound like a middle -aged southern woman, not a Latino, twenty-something man from New York. It's the details like that which can make the audio version less enjoyable. I know that narrators can make stories and characters come to life based on other audio books I've listened to and enjoyed. That said, the story is wonderful. I would not necessarily recommend the audio version, but I highly recommend the book.

This story touches the heart

Snowflake is a 5 star read like all of Nia’s stories. The narration wasn’t that great unfortunately. The female narrator sounds like some kind of spoken typewriter. For anyone that hasn’t read the book beforehand this could take away from the story because it’s hard to get into the feeling of the story with her vocal performance. Fortunately for me I’ve read this story several times and already know the book cover to cover.

Great Story, Excellent Performance!

Kal and Ash are college students, seniors. They are neighbors. Very different, but both on the same path but different.

Honestly, I wasn’t going to read this until I found this audiobook. There are few AA audiobooks, with authors like Nia. My favorite. I loved the characters despite their age. Also, I will admit I was shocked I liked this book because of their age.

Kal is popular and attractive, a future Olympian. Ash is shy and reserved, but she notices everything it appears. Just absorbs whats around her and moves in her quiet peaceful way. She has few friends and after an unfortunate incident Kal and Ash connect.

They find their place in each other’s lives. Kal doesn’t want a girlfriend but finds one he wasn’t looking for. Ash realizes sooner that she has fallen for him. She takes a step back because of a past incident with a lover. However, Kal brings her back in with his need to be around her.

Ash attempts to start something new, but Kal is there. Discovering feelings he didn’t know he had for Ash.

Her past is addressed, but I needed more redemption for her, but nevertheless it was cool. She and Kal decide they are right for each other and the book ends there.

PROS

It’s an audiobook too!
Excellent writing.
Great characters.
Great supplemental characters.
Love story develops.
Page turner.
The race dynamics with her old lover was interesting, especially with his occupation. He was liberal, but not really. Nia nailed that dynamic!
Kal’s father was a great character. A man. Loved him.

CONS

I wanted a resolution with Bennett.
Age of characters. They’re seniors in college
A lot of...interrupting conversations. At times seeing the periods interrupting the words of the characters was cool, but I noticed it was often. Distracted me, despite this being such a great story.
