Publisher's summary

Sometimes love means embracing the good, the bad . . . and even the impossible.

Dear Reader,

My name is Luke Edgewood, and there are few things in life that I require. Mainly black coffee. And flannel. And lots of solitude. And my dogs, Chewy and Indie. What I don’t need is romance, so I have no plans to change my thirty-year-old bachelor status anytime soon.

But my youngest sister thinks that by accepting a short-term construction job in the small European country of Skymar, I’m going to follow along in her footsteps and discover my own romantic adventure. Nope. Bah humbug. The End. This time, her rom-com-movie senses are totally wrong.

Or maybe not. Because I’ve met a Grace Kelly look-alike who is annoying . . . until she isn’t. But she is impossible. As in, nothing can happen between us because she is a literal princess. Even though that’s easy to forget when we’re working together to restore a castle-like orphanage in a secluded mountain town and “forced proximity” includes a small closet, a secret one-hundred-year-old journal, and the tactile memory of an off-limits royal in my arms.

Basically, the whole situation has turned into an ooey gooey magical snow globe of romantic tropes complete with cute kids and an actual ball. Now, even my sentences are starting to sound like mush. Ugh. Send high levels of testosterone my way—I’m going to need it.

Loyally,

Luke

The humor, the tropes, Luke kicking and screaming against all the romance yet falling anyway, and rather gracefully at that!

I loved it all, especially the humor, but also Luke's character. I loved the amazing ways Ellie and he fit together, very unexpected of a princess!

Laughing all the way

How does a princess and a flannel-wearing carpenter end up in the same room??? Luke's romantically challenged mind is completely bowled over when a certain royal princess manages to inch her way past the Rambo-quoting gruffness. One thing to consider is that for all his anti-kissing protests, Luke takes advantage of an abundance of kissable moments.

Utterly hilarious.

A fun, sweet, and easy listen. I I played it on the way to and from work and up until I crawled into bed.

I loved everything but the narration

Ok, before I start my review I want to say that Christopher Ashman embodied Luke Edgewood beautifully. (He also did a great job with every OTHER character he narrated in this series. He's just fantastic!)

The narration was a giant distraction for me because I listened to all three books in a row. My issue with the narration for Loyally, Luke lies with the producers of this book. First, the main female character, Princess Eliana was voiced with an IRISH accent. Skymarians have a Scottish accent, so this was weird at best and a huge oversight on the part of the audiobook producers. (Every character this narrator voices was done with an Irish accent - even American characters....) Secondly, the voices for Penelope and Isobel were SO vastly different from the first two books and were basically all wrong. (The narrators should have switched characters. That might've helped.)

Again, Christopher Ashman was swoon-worthy as Luke. He has heart and humor and executes the character flawlessly -sometimes in a laugh-out-loud way. (In fact, he did a great job with Princess Eliana and the other character he voiced - like Brodie, Mathias, Anders, Pete, Gordon, Faye, Amara, etc.) If he'd narrated the entire book, it would have been less distracting and more enjoyable.,..

Now that my complaint is voiced, the actual plot and story were just so great. What a message of acceptance, redemption, second chances and new directions. It's a story that lets you know that God truly does honor the desires of your heart. This book is FUNNY and is full of heart and surprises and just joy and so much more. Pepper Basham truly knows how to create characters that seem so real and relatable and stories that have a spiritual message (without the preachy bits) told with a lightness that helps the Truth speak and sink in. (The Hallmarkian tropes were hysterical, too.)

This is the final book in the series and I loved them all. Oh how I will miss the Edgewoods!

Worth the wait!

I’ve been waiting for Luke’s story since book 1, Authentically, Izzy, and then when he spread his teasing and good sense in Positively, Penelope, I knew I had to get the audio as soon as it came on preorder! Love this fish-out-of-water take on a royal romance. I may never look at them the same after this. And if SOMEBODY doesn’t make this into a movie, they’re missing a great opportunity!

A lot of themes

Any good story has layers of meaning and significant lessons. I hardly ever read romance crap, and I got this book in the Christian Fiction section thinking it had something to do with Luke. Like, Luke. Saint Luke. Maybe a historical fiction set in modern times. And it had high ratings.
It was nothing of the sort.
It’s a rom-com.
But what it really is, is an allegory of Jesus’ relationship with me. It’s a handbook of how I can be a better husband. It’s a great fairytale story told once again in modern times with modern twists and wry humor. I liked it… and might have possibly bubbled over a little but in private while I was listening to it. Very well done performance, great writing, and meaningful addition to my library. I might even list it as a favorite. If you catch me a couple of years from now with several rom-coms from the same author, I won’t be surprised… but then as a self respecting man I would have to kill you. Lol!
Because I don’t read rom-coms, or watch Hallmark movies.
Chime!

Waste of my time

I wanted to return this book right when it started. The story is not unique and the narration was terrible. Could not hold to an accent. Very disappointing. Find something else to listen to.
