About this listen

Caught within the horror that has become his life, Lucius Benedict waits patiently for his savior to come, preferably an angel who can ease his heart and release him from his cursed existence. When the sudden appearance of a russet-haired beauty postpones his execution, Lucius can not quite believe his luck. However, he will not waste his freedom and makes plans to prove his estranged wife died by the hand of another.

Ella Jeffries is drawn into the pages of a mysterious book and transported back in time. The year is 1709, and the place is Aingealag Estate, tucked away in the thick haar of the Scottish Highlands. There, she rescues Lucius "Luke" Benedict, the laird of Aingealag, from the executioner's gibbet and falls under the spell of his dark gaze and sensual aura.

However, Luke hides secrets behind his handsome facade, and the more she loves him, the more she learns of the ancient curse that shadows the castle and all those who dare live within its walls.

Can Ella save the Benedict family, or will Aingealag's shadows swallow them all whole?

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I liked the story but the narrator's accent made it hard to listen to. The opening scenes made me think the story was going one way but as the story unfolded it went in another directions. The narration kept pulling me out of the story because I could not understand what was being said and had to rewind to hear it again. This was my only issue because I could not understand the accent. Overall it was a good story.

Okay story

This book is so unique - I’ve never read anything remotely like it. The premise is that Ella finds herself in the pages of a book and she’s writing her own adventure. The storyline was fascinating, although it did take me a while to become wrapped up in the plot. Once I was in, though, I was fully committed. The narration, to me, left a lot to be desired. It felt as if someone had a little too much found with a soundboard (doors slamming, creaky noises, etc) and the audio quality was oftentimes echo-y and with poorly controlled volume moderation. Still a good book, even if the narration was a little cuckoo. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Unique and Mysterious

Ms. Kit Carson has written a great book in Lucius. I loved how she wrote such vibrant imagery. The narrator was spectacular with his Scottish accent. Gareth Richards sounded very authentic. The premise of this book was original. I enjoy good time travel books on occasion, and was pulled into this one. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would definitely listen to another by the author and narrator.

Lucius is a well-written time-travel romance. The plot and characters are great. I enjoyed and recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys historical and time-travel romance. Gareth Richards's performance is exceptional. I loved his Scottish accent, I would listen to more of his books.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

The narrator did a great job with the Scottish accent. At times I couldn't totally understand what he was saying, which was the point in the scene. I would listen to this narrator anytime.
The story was a bit confusing at first because what she read differed from what she walked into. But once I just let myself go with the flow it was very good.
Ella is filled with grief when her only living relative, her grandmother dies. Her grandmother left her a book that somehow writes what she imagines her story would be. it would involve murder, mystery, ghosts and above all, love. This book somehow transports her back to 1709 in Scotland .
I recieved a free copy of this book and am giving my honest opinion.

Incredible Scottish narration

I thought it was very cute from the beginning and when she mysteriously disappeared into another time and when she meets Luke was humorous. Their chemistry is one that can’t be avoided and the mystery behind the doors and towers is interesting. Loved it and recommend this audiobook. I can’t for more books of this author. She has gained herself a new fan.

Loved it

This story was an entertaining and magical one. It does leave you wishing there were magical ways to travel in time and make your fantasies come to life. I was a little lost in the beginning because I thought the story was going in a different direction but then I was pleasantly surprised with the adventure. I really only have one complaint and that is the narrator. He had a decent range for the English accents but not so much on the Scottish accent. And the sound effects were a bit distracting. I would recommend this book to any one in any age range that wants to go on a Scottish adventure. #audiobookobsession

DNF chapter 14, roughly halfway

I don't understand all the 5-star reviews of this book. It's awful. It's inconsistent, contradictory, shallow, and simply not well developed or written. To start with, the main female characters sees the main male character about to be beheaded. Then a chapter later he is about to behead someone else. There is no explanation for this rather large swap. He is unpleasant from the get go and she decides she loves him based on seemingly nothing. She shows up from the future and no-one questions it and everyone suddenly starts pairing the two of them off. (Except when the grandmother is telling Lucius he can't have Ella, which made no sense since she was practically pushing them together.) The ghosts appear and no one bats and eyelash. All of Ellas positive attributes seem to exist solely as how much better she is than the female character included as her foil. (Because of course the only other available female in the book so far has to be horrible (and probably villainous)). The emotional depth of the whole thing is paper thin. Honestly, I barely followed the plot at all. I only even made it 14 chapters because I was folding laundry and didn't want to stop to choose another audiobook. (Speaking of, I didn't love Gareth Richards narration either.) This was an all around fail. It's a relief to just give up.

Note: I received a free copy of this title. I chose to listen and review it.
