Story
A survey of the quirks and quandaries of the English language, focusing on our strange and wonderful grammar. Why do we say "I am reading a catalog" instead of "I read a catalog"? Why do we say "do" at all? Is the way we speak a reflection of our cultural values? Delving into these provocative topics and more, Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue distills hundreds of years of fascinating lore into one lively history.

Grammar! For many of us, the word triggers memories of finger-wagging schoolteachers, and of wrestling with the ambiguous and complicated rules of using formal language. But what is grammar? In fact, it's the integral basis of how we speak and write. As such, a refined awareness of grammar opens a world of possibilities for both your pleasure in the English language and your skill in using it, in both speech and the written word.

Story
In July 1995, San Jose Mercury-News reporter Gary Webb found the Big One - the blockbuster story every journalist secretly dreams about - without even looking for it. A simple phone call concerning an unexceptional pending drug trial turned into a massive conspiracy involving the Nicaraguan Contra rebels, L.A. and Bay Area crack cocaine dealers, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Good refresher
Nice to listen to while in the car, but it's better if you can read along with the PDF that's included. I didn't realize that you could click on the PDF right below the play button, so be sure you don't make the same mistake lol. There are a number of errors in the PDF, which leads me to believe that a non-science writer listened to this audiobook and quickly typed what they thought they heard. Anyways, pretty good resource to passively listen to. Obviously practice questions and exams are the only real way to excel on the MCAT though, but this is a nice extra resource for content review.

The most complete audiobook on MCAT!
Any additional comments?
This is probably the most complete audiobook I've come across for the MCAT and the most current...while it may not be the only thing you need to study for the MCAT, it definitely can be a great supplemental aid...especially if you're a listener as I am...the beginning is a bit boring and slow...the science reviews are the most helpful in my opinion...the accompanying PDF is definitely a plus...I printed it out and use it to take notes while listening...good luck!

Strangely organized, lots of basic HS level bio
Really doubt they actually cover everything one needs. The narrators have pronunciation problems, they are repetitve, too basic, and disorganized. They're good at telling you what to expect and how to find other places to study. The material doesn't get more and more advanced as you go, making it difficult to skip things you already know.

Not in alignment with material specified by AAMC
Not in alignment with the material specified by AAMC for MCAT prep. Also, it's obvious that the readers are lay people.

Not a good option for MCAT preparation
If this is your only MCAT study material, may god have mercy on your soul.
Tons of material is squeezed into a very short audiobook by way of never explaining anything or spending more than thirty seconds on a given concept. The first section (verbal reasoning/CARS) is good, but then it’s over very quickly and the rest of the audiobook (subject review) is garbage. You can’t gain anything from this unless you already know all the material, and then if you already know all the material why would you need this? It’s unbelievably short for claiming to cover everything on the MCAT. Low-effort cash grab in my opinion. For contrast, the competing MCAT audio review is over 24 hours long and only touches on one subject!
Also, the narrators are terrible and frequently mispronounce or stumble over technical words. And those are the takes they kept! You get the sense that these people are not familiar with the concepts they’re “teaching.” It’s like listening to someone skim Wikipedia articles, which might actually be what happened!

MCAT is MORE than a Table of Contents
Can you ace an exam (national notwithstanding) by reading the table of contents alone?? Me either. This "complete" review was woefully lacking of substance and I'd like my money back if I could. The narrators are obviously non-medical people as they mispronounce a slew of basic concept words. To top it all off, the male narrator YAWNS during his narration MULTIPLE TIMES. I love audio books. Skip this one.

Do not purchase
Essentially tells you everything you already know. Go to bed early. Wear something comfortable. Things you should already know. Focus on actual material from OTHER books
