About this listen

Tortured by brutal memories of his wife’s murder yet commanded to wed, warrior Magnus finds unexpected passion in his new bride’s arms. But can Modwen's love heal the wounds of his battle-scarred heart - or will another’s jealousy destroy them both?

A horde of battle-hardened, ferocious warriors. A village at the mercy of its enemies. A bargain struck for nine fearful and reluctant brides. Delivered into Viking hands, claimed and conquered, each bride must accept that she belongs to her new master. But, as wedding nights bring surrender to duty, will fierce lovers also surrender their hearts?

Magnus is one of nine powerfully seductive romances in the Viking Surrender series.

an Emmanuelle classic!

An Emmanuelle classic. So realistic to the time period you can feel the love, the battles within & the brutality of the day. As with her other books I was totally transported back in time with the story and immersed myself in it till the very end. I was completely Involved with the strong characters she creates. I re immensely this book.

I was gifted this Audible as an ARC & this is my voluntary & honest review...

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧 Captivating & Heartfelt!

This is a fantastic story, it is a well written, well told historical romance. It place around the year 912 AD and is set in Scotland. The book is part of the Viking Surrender Series, while the story stands on its own, I do recommend reading and/or listening to “Vikings” the first book in the series. It is the prologue to the series and shows how and why the Vikings take root in Achnaryrie Village. It gives a better understanding to the characters relationship. Emmanuelle de Maupassant’s contribution to the series is a great one, this is Magnus and Modwen’s story and what a story it is. Magnus never got over the brutal death of his wife, he blames himself for not protecting her from the savages that attacked her. He is not happy about his new situation, a marriage coming out of a deal made by his leader. He is a husband in name only to the widow of the towns forger. Modwen lost her husband and accepts the deal made to bring men in to help bring their once flourishing town back to its glory. She now has a new husband, in name only since he wants nothing to do with her. Magnus must let go of his guilt and rid the inner demons that haunt him. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is well plotted and there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt ones and slow burn romance.

James Magnum and Violet Knight are terrific narrators and voice artists. They bring the characters to life, give each their own voice and personality. They did a great job portraying the characters, humanizing them with their emotions and passion. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

I really liked this story

I really liked this story of Magnus and Modwen and how, eventually they found their happiness.
I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but that isn‘t necessary: this is a standalone story.

The narrators (James Magnum and Violet Knight) did a good job, although I really had to get used to James’ voice.

great story of overcoming your past

this story is a strong story of love that is strong enough to last even after death and second chance love , if we only allow it, the road is hard and the story pulls you in and makes you want to shake the characters, but you feel like you become a part of the story. I received this for a honest review and i think that James and violet did great in reading this story and made it easy to want to stay and listen, bringing life to the story.

Forgetting the past isn't always easy

Vikings have taken a town, and married the women within.
The widow of the former blacksmith, found herself married again, to a Viking warrior, who obviously could also work the forge.
However, all was not what one would have expected and the lack of language skills did nothing to assist.
How do these two strangers learn to live together and love each other, is a somewhat beautiful tale, which will entrance a reader who enjoys historical and romantic love stories combined.

Magnus

Taking a wife, because he was ordered to, Magnus did his duty. Even though he’d wed, he knew he’d never feel love like he did for his murdered wife. It it possible his sense of duty can lead to more?

A short story, but very entertaining. Emmanuelle de Maupassant definitely pulls you into the period with her descriptions and characters.

The narration by James Magnum and Violet Knight really brought the story to life. Great accents!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

magnus

Magnus was very hesitant to find comfort, healing, and love to move forward with Modwen. When he took blame it seemed a huge turning point for the couple. I liked the way he treated the children- nurturer and educator. I felt empty for both, but happy they found a way to
rebuild and survive. Surprise twist at thr end- sweet. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The duet narration was great.
