About this listen

Maggie Smith left her home and family behind her to forge a successful career. But she is beginning to wonder if it truly was worth all the sacrifices she has made. But her desire for a family and loving partner may be a challenge too far. Has she already had everything she dreamed of, and foolishly pushed it away?

Ethan Cahill has spent most of his adult years alone, wandering wherever he could find work. His family's newly found luck has given him the stability he once craved. But is it enough? Can he truly find a way to settle after all these years, and can he ever let go of his past?

Mail Order Bride - A Bride for Ethan

This is a sweet clean historical fiction. Mail order bride Maggie is strong, self sufficient and afraid to trust men. When she and Ethan connect, will their pasts bring them together or drive them apart? Nice to see a bride not running away, but running to her future.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

Clean Romance..

Any additional comments?

This was a sweet story, Maggie is driven and Ethan is a loner.

However, they both are filled with determination and a will to make their marriage work.

Overall, this was a good clean romance that was a worthwhile read or listen.

Alan Taylor did really well with the narration, his voice was clear and calming.

This series gets better with each segment!

Another segment of the Sun River series, this one is my favorite. I love strong women, and Maggie is the the epitome of a strong woman. Maggie and Ethan were in love as teenagers, but Maggie's secret made her push him away and make it on her own. She would depend on no one. Now that she is a success she realizes she wants a husband and family and turns to the mail order bride letters to find herself a husband. To her surprise, Ethan responds and the chance for a reunion is on...but will she run again? Will Ethan be able to live with Maggie's secret?

I especially love the correspondence in this series. The letter writing is an amazing way to get to know the characters. The banter is fun and gives you real insight to them. I also love that the characters from the other books in the series still play a role in the story.

Alan Taylor has such a smooth, warm voice. I love his performances. Looking forward to meeting more of the family and friends in this well written series.

Wholesome Romance!

Any additional comments?

I love these books they are sweet and romantic. In this book in particular I love the fact that Maggie is a strong woman and not some passive overly feminine character. I also liked the fact that Ethan was looking for her for years after their first romance knowing he wanted no one but her. This was a great romance book I would highly suggest!

A bride for Ethan

Overall review for Sun River Brides, books 2-5: Karla Gracey's Mail Order Bride series is a series of sweet romantic shortstories. The stories are very fast-paced and only told - not showed. In some books I didn't connect with the characters at all. You won't get much background stories to the characters' lives and in some points you only get the point of view from one of them. These books are good entertainment if you need a short listen once in a while.

About 'A Bride for Ethan': In this story Maggie and Ethan corresponds and finds out that they are 'childhood sweethearts' - if that's a thing. Again I had a problem with a wedding two days after they were re-united. These stories doesn't have much passion and romance either. It's like the characters do what they believe is most sensible, not what their heart tells them to do. I need to FEEL them, but I don't. I miss the passion and romance from Barbara Cartland and the drama and storyline from Danielle Steel. If you love that too, these books are not for you.

Alan Taylor did a very good job in narrating this series and has a very pleasant voice and made characters come to life. I'd love to hear him in other books as well.
