Sunday Styles is a passionate romance novelist with a pretty comfortable career and a size fourteen swimsuit. Archie Macleod is a Scottish-American Broadway actor who has no trouble making friends, but who has a hard time finding love. When the two of them agree to join the ten-contestant cast of "Artisan's Isle," the hottest new thing in reality television, they quickly find that they're in for way more than they bargained for. While the show may have been intended as a trope-filled, trashy mishmash of "crafting competition" and "dating show," it quickly evolves into something entirely different as the contestants decide that they're more interested in the connections they're making on the island than they are in the money. While they fight the producers to forge something beautiful and permanent out something built for ratings, Sunday and Archie battle the confines of the show, the producers, and their own insecurities to get and stay together.
EPISODE ONE: Making Waves
Sunday and Archie arrive on the island just in time to meet their fellow artists, each of whom have their own goals, their own endgame, and their own styles of flirting. They pair up for the first challenge and begin to get to know each other, but it isn't long before the other contestants get in the way and drag them into all sorts of different romantic drama and sexual tension, all in the very first episode of Artisan's Isle.

A romance novelist meets a Broadway actor who is Scottish while being a contestant on a competition and dating reality show.
Fun characters in a fun plot. This book is the beginning of a series and does not resolve all plot issues, and leaves you ready for the next episode. Includes LGBQ and otherly-abled characters.
Notes for author: I could have used a couple more sentences explaining the reality tv show, central to this series, which is a cross between a dating show and a reality show. But I am not a regular viewer of The Bachelor or Bachlorette. But, I've done every episode of Project Runway. Setting, where they are doing the shoot and the contests, could be described in a bit more visual detail. Loved the subtle Outlander/Gabaldon jokes. I hope you get a tv series option.
Notes about narration: The male narrator, Andrew Perez, of the book is a relatively high tenor and his voice characterization of the 50+ year old reality tv show host sounds a bit too young and too high pitched for my believability standards. The narrator's characterization of a 30-something female romance novelist was an even farther reach for me. But portrayal of the Sam Heughan-esque Scottish actor was great. Maybe this series needs a dual narrator treatment?
Ready for the next episode....please.
