About this listen

"An instant classic." (Arianna Huffington)

"Will inspire people from across the political spectrum." (Jonathan Haidt)

An essential shortlist of leadership ideas for everyone who wants to do good in this world, from Jacqueline Novogratz, author of the New York Times best seller The Blue Sweater and founder and CEO of Acumen.

In 2001, when Jacqueline Novogratz founded Acumen, a global community of socially and environmentally responsible partners dedicated to changing the way the world tackles poverty, few had heard of impact investing - Acumen’s practice of “doing well by doing good”. Nineteen years later, there’s been a seismic shift in how corporate boards and other stakeholders evaluate businesses: Impact investment is not only morally defensible, but now also economically advantageous, even necessary.

Still, it isn’t easy to reach a success that includes profits as well as mutually favorable relationships with workers and the communities in which they live. So how can today’s leaders, who often kick off their enterprises with high hopes and short timetables, navigate the challenges of poverty and war, of egos and impatience, which have stymied generations of investors who came before?

Drawing on inspiring stories from change-makers around the world and on memories of her own most difficult experiences, Jacqueline divulges the most common leadership mistakes and the mindsets needed to rise above them. The culmination of 30 years of work developing sustainable solutions for the problems of the poor, Manifesto for a Moral Revolution offers the perspectives necessary for all those - whether ascending the corporate ladder or bringing solar light to rural villages - who seek to leave this world better off than they found it.

Inspirational and Humble Story

This is a great story about how capitalism can be a force for good in our world. Jacqueline tells many personal stories (not always casting herself in the most favorable light) and stories about her portfolio companies that inspire me to do more!

We need this book now more than ever

Jacqueline Novogratz generously shared inspiring stories of love, courage, generosity from her experience and great leaders from all over the world.

This book is a boost of hope grounded in action. A reminder of what matters in life. And a guide to building a character and living a life worthwhile. Urging us to think beyond ourselves, to see those who have been marginalized by society and economic systems.

Beautifully narrated by the author herself.

Inspiring our todays

A must read for all changemakers who feel moved to do something big or small with their lives. And for those seeking or needing encouragement along that journey. The practice of writing a manifesto should be required at different stages in our lives. It reminds us of our why, our purpose, the time we have for our one precious life -to be in service to one another.

Manifesto for all of us

Not just interesting and inspiring stories of Acumen’s work to raise up the poor, but a compelling invitation to examine where the reader can make a difference in small or big ways within their sphere of influence.

Jacqueline’s reading of her book brings you along on her project visits, into contentious meetings with powerful foreign leaders, and 1:1 with her as she shares her own doubts and challenges along the way. Prepare to sign up for a bigger vision for your life.

The best listen ever!

I just can’t say enough about this book. In fact I’m almost speechless. Essentially it is a model of what all humanity could hope to aspire to. This woman is a gift to our world. Her voice, as if coming from the core of love and compassion and a sublime greater intelligence, is a delight. I’ll just keep it that simple. In deep gratitude. Thank you.

Truly life impacting. If you are into that kind of thing, it doesn’t get any better. Quietly and savagely challenging to the human psyche. I’m in. Thanks

A Guide for Grown-Up Idealists

If you wish to change the world and alleviate some unnecessary suffering, Jacqueline Novogratz maintains that you’re going to encounter resistance from a rather predictable cast of characters (e.g., cynical journalists, market fundamentalists, impatient venture capitalists, progressive bullies, narrow-minded nationalists, thieving employees, corrupt businessmen with two sets of books, government bureaucrats looking for bribes, intellectuals who like to complain about everything but do nothing, etc.). Like Niccolò Machiavelli’s Prince (1532) and Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals (1971), Manifesto for a Moral Revolution (2020) teaches you how to deal with the different kinds of difficult people you’re likely to meet with wisdom and grace. Like Susan Neiman’s Moral Clarity (2008), this is a guide for grown-up idealists. It is also, to some extent, sort of like a 21st-century version of Plutarch’s Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans. Novogratz ignites the moral imagination of her reader with stories of common people doing uncommon things. Like Plutarch, she reminds us that mere mortals can be great.
