About this listen

You're never too old to make a bad decision.

After 20 winters on the road, Tanyth Fairport makes one last pilgrimage in her quest to learn all she can about the herbs and medicinal plants of Korlay before settling down to write her magnum opus. Her journey is interrupted when she decides to help a small village and learns that much of what she knows of the world may not be quite as it seems.

Nathan Lowell blends Wiccan tradition and shamanistic lore into a fantasy quest for a new - if unlikely - heroine. She learns that the familiar sometimes hides the fantastic and that, even when you think you’ve made your decisions, life doesn’t always agree.

This is a wonderful book and I'm amazed at how well the main character is written, Nathan has really gotten into a womens mind and figured it out (probably should teach a class on it!!) The story is captivating and the descriptions of daily life routines is so interesting that I wanted to know more, not going to lie I did start googling some of the things to learn more! I highly suggest this book, it's something else, something new, unexpected!

Wait what? A man wrote this book?

Not your rip, roaring adventure, but just quiet storytelling. Good characters with real problems. A touch of magic or something is added, but it fits with the story.

Pretty good

Good story but perhaps too much “daily life details” for everyone. Works well as an audiobook.

Good story - will read next one

I am a big fan of all of the authors books! I've read them, but hearing them brought to life on Spotify and Audible makes it all new again!

Big Fan!

I’ve loved this story since it was first published. This is a wonderful version by a favorite narrator.

A favorite!!

This was a wonderfully written tale; just my cup of tea (smile). No explosions, no explicit sex, just a beautiful story that gently carried me away for a bit. I recommend it to anyone who cares about plot.

What a wonderful book!!!

I enjoyed a story about a middle-aged woman for a change. This was a nice change from the endless drama and stress that so many authors seem to think is necessary. But it’s a bit too far on the other end.

Well done but a bit slow

I enjoy Mr. Lowell’s world building. This story has a fascinating explanation of magic and the origins of the crone in the woods trope. I enjoyed this story years ago as a podcast and I’m happy to hear it with some more polish to the audio.

It’s different having the protagonist be a woman of late middle age and have her strengths & weaknesses addressed in a dignified way. She rescues herself and shields others realistically.

The narrator gives this story a soothing voice and I liked the addition of the chimes to differentiate the dreams & visions.

Since Amazon won't tell you these things, here you go. I didn't anticipate these in this story, and was disappointed in finding them. Hesitant to try the next book. The performance is AMAZING. She is SO good!

Sexual assault, domestic violence and torture
