About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A delightful romantic adventure from one of the best-known and beloved historical novelists of all time.

Robin and Prudence Merriot have been dissemblers since they were children. And in this age of slippery politics, they need to be. So it is nothing for them to rescue a rich heiress from her abductor. But once committed to their masquerade, they must see it through....

For more than 50 years, Georgette Heyer was the undisputed queen of historical romance. And as these hugely successful reprints have shown, she still has a large devoted fan base.

Brother and Sister...A Change Of Identity

Everyone loves a good masquerade, as always, Heyer did not disappoint! Stella Rilley gives a great wink to the book in her book The Player

A favorite Heyer story

This story of intrigue and cross dressing, sword, fights, heroics, and one of the most delicious romances of all Georgette Heyer novels is just plain fun! The performance was wonderful, and the voice ever so beautiful. The French accent was exquisite except him a couple of words that truly shocked the listener as they were unexpectedly wrongly, pronounced. Nevertheless, it was a fun performance.

Dressing up, elopements, duels, and a lost heir

This late 18th c.-set novel has everything! Maybe too much of everything? A family of tricksters take London high society by storm--but what will happen if they fall in love for real and reveal their true identities? Lots of action, multiple disguises. The plot has a nice symmetry to it, in fact. Eleanor Yates's narration is pleasant, but somewhat lacking in lower registers for the male characters. On the whole, however, Masqueraders is a good time.

Swoonworthy as always

Great voice acting for each character! Anthony was lazy and suave, Pru was soft and thoughtful, the villains were nasaly and haughty. This romance is one of my favorites, simply for the scene where the male lead finally gets everything admitted to him. That part lives rent free in my head (but explaining why would spoil it!) I love how the side characters and their romances (her brother to be specific) are always so well fleshed out!!

Great story, uneven narrator

excellent story, full of fun, humor, adventure, and romance. The narrator did a great job with the different voices, but consistently mispronounced words which was distracting. for example, voluminous was pronounced volumous, and benignly was pronounced benignantly.

Love Heyer!

This is one of my favorite books by her. The reading was very nice. Was sad when it was over.

Outstanding!!

Wonderful, delightful G. Heyer! The story was pleasing and exciting. The dialogue, the character development, the intricate and yet easily followed plot, and the HE all contributed to a great reading experience. The narrator made a few minor stumbles (covert instead of cavort; sang “froyd” instead of froid which is pronounced more like “fwah” in French). Otherwise the narration was brilliant with each character having an easily recognizable voice. Highly recommend!

this reader was way better than the one from the previous recording. this story is a little hard to get into at the beginning, but once it gets going it's very enjoyable.

After 40 years - still fun!

I read Georgette Heyer as a teenager and loved this gender-bending book… it is handled so well and calm

Great fun!

All of the intrigue that was also laughable! Each of the Masqueraders were out doing each other.
