About this listen

Twelve miles above the Pacific Ocean, a missile strikes a jumbo passenger jet and leaves the flight crew either crippled or dead. This is the story of how three survivors must achieve the impossible and land the plane. Master storyteller Nelson DeMille and veteran pilot Thomas Block collaborated on Mayday, the most terrifyingly realistic air disaster thriller of all time.©1979, 1998 by Thomas H. Marginal at best

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Technical details are far from accurate, and audio is not very clear. Marginal at best.

Mayday

This author never fails to write exciting, fast moving, thought provoking novels. As usual, he includes enough fact to make the fiction frightening. This is every fliers nightmare- an incapacitated flight crew. It makes you want to check the flight manifest to be sure there is a seasoned pilot in the passenger section before boarding! And the liability carrier??? I'm sure ,while probably not verbalized, there isn't a carrier out there who hasn't been conflicted faced with overwhelming financial responsibility for a disaster. I highly recommend this book, as I do any of this authors' efforts

Unable to get past first chapter

I've read and enjoyed several Nelson DeMille books and was looking forward to immersing myself in this on during a long drive. But I just couldn't do it. The narration sounded like a badly synthesized computer voice, muffled under a pile of clothes. I wouldn't be surprised if this narration was copied from an old cassette tape from the 1970's. It was that bad.

I really hope it was just a case of poor production or lack of quality control. I can't imagine this being what the author intended when they decided to produce an Audible version of their book.

Unbelievable

The story here strains in every direction. From the technology of the airplane to the multiple morally corrupt villains to the better than believable pilot. Couldn’t wait for this to be over, but kept hoping any character would become more complex and believable and not just a cartoon cutout setup to make the plot move forward. Ugh.

The audio is awful. Too quiet and too much bass. Could not understand reader. Would like to return for credit
