About this listen

He's empty, inhuman, dishonest, and cruel. She's never wanted anyone more. Sydney has lived in fear for eight years after freelance assassin, Merc, failed to rescue her from a cult-like militia group. Left in the hands of a sadistic man, she did whatever it took to survive. But Merc's last words gave her hope. Hope he'd be back to finish the job. After Merc is betrayed by her father, Sydney becomes his target. He wields sex, drugs, lies, and love like weapons. Merc knows just what to do with a fearful girl like Sydney. He's in control. He's always in control. But Sydney Channing is not what she appears. And Merc's only redeeming act - the very one that made Sydney's life a living hell - might just be his worst mistake yet. Warning: Meet Me in the Dark is a standalone non-traditional dark captive romantic suspense. It is not intended for sensitive listeners.

You’ll Need A Flashlight To Get Through This Dark

On the cover of this book, it says a dark suspense, and that's what it is and it's not an understatement! The story centers around Sydney and Merc, they first meet up when Sydney is seventeen, begging Merc to save her from bad guy boyfriend Garrett, but Merc is no hero and after roughing her up, he serves her up to Garrett on a silver platter, but he leaves an ominous message with her that he will be back, when she least expects it to finish her off.

Several years later, engaged to be married to a man named Brett, happiness is within her reach, but a feeling of dread overcomes her and she decides to run, unfortunately for her right into Merc’s clutches. Kidnapping her, Merc sets about breaking down Sydney and attempting to extract information from her about Garrett, who disappeared from her life without a trace years ago.

This book is a difficult listen and if you have triggers you’ll want to stay far away from this book, it’s a terrifying tale and there’s extreme violence, degradation, dubious consent, and explicit sexual content, this is more of a thriller/suspense novel but it does have romantic elements and an HEA, but you feel like you’ve been through war to get there!

The dual narration by Troy Duran and Anna Riordan was flawless, what they do really is acting and they both did a wonderful job. The audio production quality was first class and I look forward to listening to more from these narrators!

5 Meet Me in the Dark Stars

Ok first…what did I just listen to?? It was so awesome and had me on the edge of my seat, I was like this guys is messed up…this chick needs something…help, love, a therapist?

I knew going in it was going to be different, because well it’s a JA Huss book. And that I was going to be one scratching my head and two enthralled to the very end and both were true.

The mind control stuff, just saying kind of freaks me out. I know it can happen and all that but I don’t know I might be one of those people who would like to believe it’s a myth or let me live on cloud 9.. Ok reality can suck sometime so of course I know it’s real but dang.. shudders..

Sydney this girl, I want to hug her. She has known nothing but hurt most of her life. I can’t even wrap my head around all she went through. But I think what I liked was she might have seemed *weak* she was far from it both in mind and body. Think about all she went through that would have broken a normal person. And she came out still standing.

Merc, ok this dude was scary, maybe even a little crazy too. I was like this guy needs love in his life, chill him out a little bit. Because he seriously was like SCARY.. But he too was conditioned, doing what he thought was right. And it took this girl, this woman to make him see things in a different way.

I think these two together will shock people sure but keep reading is what I say. It all unfolds in such a manor you will be like ahhh I get it now.

And the narration.. hot damn it was perfect they did a phenomenal job bring this book to life before my eyes seriously, I was like hubby you have to listen to this or check this out. I have never done that before.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Incredibly well written but

This book is so well done, but one thing bothered me. First I should say well worth the credit. The thing that bothered me was there is no way that girl wouldn't have multiple broken bones. The violence while part of this type of book was to the level where her bones would have broken. I couldn't believe it simply for that reason. Still, even with that it was well written and I would buy again. The performance was top notch

Dark thriller

I'm still processing this book, First, the characters. Sydney and Merc are the most twisted, delusional, messed up characters . But I did like this book it's definitely kept you reading/listening it was not what I expected at all but JA Huss is such a great writer she really did some amazing writing with this.

Love it

I really enjoy Merc Story one of my top three with Five and Ford stories. The story was a little darker but that's what make it worth it and more realistic.

dark but good

The only thing that would have made this book any better would be the way the book was narrated. The narrators were great but I just do not like listening to a female trying to sound like a male. And vice versa. Would have been award winning if it would have been a true dual narration. A must listen or read.

Twisted and Dark! My kind of book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely! First of all, the narration was off the charts fabulous! Add to that the wonderfully twisted and dark story, written by JA Huss, was brilliant!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that I never new what was happening. Once I thought I had it figured it out, the story took a turn and I was left wondering what the heck was going on.

What about Troy Duran and Anna Riordan ’s performance did you like?

Troy Duran is my new favorite male narrator. He just nails it! He has such a nice deep voice, with lots of emotion. I am really looking forward to hearing him narrate more books. Anna Riordan was excellent as well and does an excellent male voice.

This is NOT an easy one to get through...

I have an extremely high tolerance for pretty much everything when it comes to my beloved erotica. With this being said, this audiobook had me shook. It is a real hard one to get through as I found myself yelling in my car, "Why is he doing this?" I closed my eyes on several occasions as the details of Merc's torture were revealed. I felt really bad for Sydney and the level of punishment she endured because of others misdoings is off the charts. If you have any kind of SA triggers or guys hitting, punching or kicking women then this is definitely NOT the book for you. It's a good thing it wrapped up the way it did or I would have been really upset for a long time over this one. Thank you for the ride JA Huss. Thank you Troy and Anna for the depth you gave this story through your narration. It is much appreciated!

Read in under 24 hours..... Beware you won’t want to turn this book off!

I’m so pissed with Julie, my credit card bill is going to be absurd this month! #JokingNotJoking So, January 22nd, 2021 I downloaded Jessy -Bossy Brothers I listened to that book in under 24 hours as well!!!! I fell in LOVE WITH JULIE!!! I have since read All of the bossy books.... then both creeping beautiful books, FIVE which I realized was out of order and went back and started with Rook and Ronin series! I still wonder if I’m reading them in the correct order obviously I started in the middle with Bossy but OMG.... I am HOOKED!!!! The most disturbing, spectacular, riveting, sexy, sweet yet very dark amazing characters and I love love love the imagery I’d listen to a JA Huss book over watching TV or A Movie anyway!!!! #SoManyThreePacksOfCredits
