Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller

"None of this is real and all of it is true." (Jim Carrey)

Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he's an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege — but he's also lonely. Maybe past his prime. Maybe even...getting fat? He's tried diets, gurus, and cuddling with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui. Even the sage advice of his best friend, actor, and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage isn't enough to pull Carrey out of his slump.

But then Jim meets Georgie: ruthless ingénue, love of his life. And with the help of auteur screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, he has a role to play in a boundary-pushing new picture that may help him uncover a whole new side to himself — finally, his Oscar vehicle! Things are looking up!

But the universe has other plans.

Memoirs and Misinformation is a fearless semi-autobiographical novel, a deconstruction of persona. In it, Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon have fashioned a story about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrity, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal erasure, our "one big soul", Canada, and a cataclysmic ending of the world — apocalypses within and without.

Critic reviews

“A mad fever dream... Carrey and his collaborator Vachon pull out all the stops as their protagonist Jim Carrey careens from midlife blues through love and career complications toward the apocalypse...gems of comic fantasy and the nuggets of memoir gold.” (Kirkus)

I was tased with an acid audiobook

I’m now not sure who I am or what I am. Am I thirsty or just hungry for a dirt clod appetizer?
I bought this at first sight thinking it was a true story from the great Jim Carrey only to find myself taken on a crazy journey through his mind, soul and art filled expression.
I need a drink and BJ to get my mind right.

Questions!

I first listened to it 3/4 of the way, then, fascinated by the whole thing, spent half the night googling questions I had and the following day relistened to it from the beginning to the end.... and im going to do it again lol. I work while I listen, so sometimes I miss stuff, but wow what a ride! I think it was brilliantly written, the style is fantastic, and I loved the 3rd person viewpoint. The narrator definitely lacked when making Jims words come alive, though, he was quite dull and not appropriate for the style of book being read. But that cannot take away from how entertaining and fascinating I found it, leaving me with many many questions as to which parts were fictional, stretched, exaggerated... and which parts really were the truth.

Pretty Good Stuff

As a work of surreal fiction the book succeeds. Memoirs and Misinformation is a lot of fun. I enjoyed it immensely.

Wild and Mystic

Jeff Daniels has intuitive knowledge of Carrey’s voices and intentions without impersonating anyone.

This is the wildest biography I’ve ever read, made all the wilder by its prophetic themes in our current times. Loved it and would recommend it to any fan of his and philosophy, pop culture, etc.

A contemporary Invisible Cities

An allegory, a poem, a surrealist journey through philosophic investigation by a true artist. I’m better for listening.
