Publisher's summary

Mental Architecture explores the true nature of reality and brain-based experience in a dynamic and diverse world. We unravel the mysteries behind your conscious mind, including the tendency to see faces in inanimate objects, the subjective nature of time perception, and the significant limitations mathematical models and measurement systems impose in accurately describing the world around us.

We also examine the physical and social challenges imposed by different perspectives and challenge the notion of objectivity. The discussion then turns further inward with a focus on what it means to be "normal" and if it is possible to have a stable identity in a body subject to the continual forces of aging and time.

Every decision we make is called into question, leaving us to wonder what choices we have control over and which ones we do not. There are powerful messages of hope and humanity throughout the book, with a direct embrace of individuality, diversity, and natural beauty. Anyone who listens to it will discover a renewed sense of self and purpose, and will never look at the world or themselves in the same way.

Excellent and thorough discussion

This book takes a deep dive into how our minds work, and how we can better understand ourselves. Thorough and thoughtful, each segment builds naturally towards the next point. Enjoyed it all the way through, will definitely read again. The part about addiction was very interesting, and as someone with ADHD, I felt very understood when it explained how it affects our behavior. Highly recommend.

A look into the Mind's Eye

Howard's book on the mind's eye. Yes, that's what I will call this audiobook, is a very comprehensive overview of what people perceive when we use our minds to engage the world around us and the world within our consciousness. This book will help you gain a level of understanding about your mind and your consciousness as a whole.

However, I feel that once I completed the book, I'm left wanting. I'm left wanting an answer of a sort that doesn't make itself known. Though, I don't think Howard's intentions were to tell us what Mental Architecture is and how to think of it in the correct frame of mind. But rather, I believe Howard wants us to draw our own conclusion on the matter.

The book goes over various topics about Mental Architecture, and it goes just deep enough for the reader to have an understanding of that particular topic. It is not a book where we do a deep dive on each topic to draw some sort of conclusion. After completing the book, there are several topics I’d like to revisit and maybe read some more about in books that specialize in them.

All in All, this book is a good compendium to any other book about the mind's eye.
