About this listen

"British comic Russell Brand narrates this powerful combined memoir and personal growth lesson as if he were performing a one-man play.... [T]his audiobook reveals Brand's startling insights about how we human beings can make a lot of serious mistakes but somehow keep the faith about our potential for healing, love, and honesty in all of our affairs." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner)

This program is read by the author.

Russell Brand explores the idea of mentoring and shares what he's learned from the guidance of his own helpers, heroes, and mentors.

Could happiness lie in helping others and being open to accepting help yourself? Mentors - the follow-up to the New York Times best seller Recovery - describes the benefits of seeking and offering help.

"I have mentors in every area of my life, as a comic, a dad, a recovering drug addict, a spiritual being and as a man who believes that we, as individuals and the great globe itself, are works in progress and that through a chain of mentorship we can improve individually and globally, together.... One of the unexpected advantages my drug addiction granted is that the process of recovery that I practise includes a mentorship tradition.

"I will encourage you to find mentors of your own and explain how you may better use the ones you already have. Furthermore, I will tell you about my experiences mentoring others and how invaluable that has been on my ongoing journey to self-acceptance and how it has helped me to transform from a bewildered and volatile vagabond to a (mostly) present and (usually) focussed husband and father." (Russell Brand)

Mentors: How to Help and Be Helped describes the impact that a series of significant people have had on the author - from the wayward youths he tried to emulate growing up in Essex, through the first ex-junkie sage, to the people he turns to today to help him be a better father. It explores how we all - consciously and unconsciously - choose guides, mentors, and heroes throughout our lives and examines the new perspectives they can bring.

This audiobook is like a very rich and delicious chocolate cake! It's meant to be taken in small bites and savoring for all of the textures of its flavors. I really enjoyed this deep dive into consciousness and relationships. Listening to this book has definitely shined a bright beaming light onto the path I'm walking. Thank you Russell Brand for sharing your Light and journey to help light this path.

Good read (listen)

Quite interesting situations on how to reach out for help regardless of the situation you find yourself, given that there is always room for improvement and sometimes mentorship is the way to break vicious cycles or going past certain thresholds that we may not be seeing as sometime we think we can fool ourselves, no matter how false this is.

Deep inspired thinking grounded y honest self reflection

Whenever Russell Brand chooses to share his verbal virtuosity you know you are in for a spectacular roller coaster ride of quick hitting fast building truths and metaphors and stories that make you laugh. This book contains all that brilliance which is just sort of delightful to behold but it couples that talent with a softer slower percolating narrative that gently brings the listener into the author’s process of attachment to the best part of people. He shows us how he develops trust in others and then self. The book gives the reader permission and encouragement to connect despite our collective disconnection. His words do much to alleviate alienation and despair.

Mr. Brand surprised me

overall, this was a great and enlightening book. The performance was really well done by Russell Brand. I'm truly amazed at how well of a reader / narrator he is. this book would definitely keep me in the lookout for some more of his material. my only criticism, really a personal thing, is that it didn't keep me too engaged; but I think that may have been more due to the diction that he speaks with

Authentic and Original

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. I am inspired by Russell’s ability to put to language the human condition. His particular story is interestingly articulated, but because his insights can apply to every single human being it makes me love him and feel intense gratitude. I began listening to his Audible books because I wanted to recommend him to my son who is 50 yrs old and still caught in the cycles of drug & alcohol dependence. Each book has been so inspiring that I can’t wait for the next. I hope one day
My son will find his way out of his pain. Thank you for reaching so skillfully into the depth of feeling and sharing that so articulately.
