About this listen

This Christmas, a hot fireman makes a holiday rescue and sparks fly in this sizzling holiday short story by bestselling author Alexandria Bellefleur.

When Everleigh Dangerfield’s baking disaster necessitates a call to 911, firefighter Griffin Brantley douses the flames in the kitchen, but the ones he stokes in Everleigh are an entirely different story. Unfortunately, Everleigh’s only visiting and doesn’t do casual hookups, no matter how smoldering the temptation. But Everleigh’s holiday mishaps have just begun. And Griffin is seemingly always on call. If Everleigh is game for a change of plans, he can give her the merriest Christmas of her life.

Alexandria Bellefleur’s Merriment and Mayhem is part of Under the Mistletoe, a collection of sexy December romances to warm the cold winter nights. They can be read or listened to in one swoony sitting.

Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur may just be my favorite novella in the Under the Mistletoe collection! Honestly, that’s no surprise—I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Bellefleur, and this one delivered all the fun, spice, and swoon-worthy moments I was hoping for.

The story follows Everleigh Dangerfield, a quirky and charming newcomer to town whose attempt at baking cookies ends in, well… mayhem. She accidentally turns on the broiler instead of the bake cycle, nearly sets her kitchen on fire, and suddenly finds herself surrounded by firefighters. Mortified but maintaining her humor, Everleigh tries to explain the issue with her oven, and while most of the firefighters remain professional, there’s one—Griffin Brantley—who seems to be toeing the line between teasing and shameless flirting.

Fast forward a week, and Everleigh’s clumsy streak strikes again, landing her in yet another embarrassing situation. This time, she’s hanging from a window and needs to be rescued—by none other than Griffin, the handsome local firefighter she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about. Sparks fly (literally and figuratively), and Griffin seizes the moment to ask her out. When Everleigh makes it clear she’s not looking for anything casual, Griffin assures her he’s not either, setting the stage for a deliciously spicy and swoony romance.

This novella is exactly what I wanted from a quick holiday romance: flirty banter, steamy chemistry, and a love story that doesn’t skimp on the feels. My only tiny critique? I could have used just a touch more holiday atmosphere to really lean into the seasonal vibes. That said, this was an absolute delight, and I’ll be revisiting it for cozy vibes in the future.

psa, in the heat of passion is not the best time to throw out condom usage even if ppl that you have just met say they have been tested for x,y,z and just trust that it is true. i realize this is fictional, but romanticizing situations like this and sets a potentislly worrisome paradigm.

Fun story, but pls have ppl not forgo condoms so easily

Firefighter, insta-love, 3rd person POV, single POV + narration
Everleigh and Griffin meet at her absolute worst; falling into his arms after the fire department shows up to her burning the kitchen while making cookies (sans pants) and then when she’s hanging from the side of the house after her ladder breaks hanging Christmas lights. Griffin still manages to charm Everleigh through all the mayhem.

I am loving these books! Everleigh isn't normally a hot mess, but when Griffin is there to save her each time, it doesn't seem so bad. This one was just adorable with a hot fire fighter and a girl who thinks she is in town for a short time, realizing that she might need to stay for the man who changed everything.
