In the night, all rules are forgotten...
Eloisa James, the acclaimed author of Potent Pleasures, returns to Regency England with an unforgettable new heroine - a genteel but naughty innocent who gets more than she bargains for when she finally says yes to love.
To her legions of adoring suitors, it comes as quite a shock when Lady Sophie York rejects an offer of marriage from the dashing, rakish Patrick Foakes in favor of amiable but dull Braddon Chatwin. He may be an earl, but it is Patrick's stolen kisses that sear her lips.
When Patrick, in disguise, scales a ladder to retrieve his friend's fiancée, he never expects the elopement to be his own. Neither does Sophie, Braddon, or the rest of the tattling ton. One hasty wedding later, the passionate innocent and the sophisticated rogue play out their own intricate dance as Sophie masters what it takes to keep a man where he belongs. And Patrick learns the ultimate lesson in love.

But having her lose the baby hit home really hard for me and made me cry. The way she described the loss and her emotions behind it and him seeing his dead child brought me to tears.
Tear jerker at the end

Lady Sophie had watched her parents marriage dissolve and swore she would never have a husband who would flaunt mistress after another to the detriment and humiliation her mother had endured. So even though from the moment she laid eyes on the rumored rake hall Patrick Foakes, she had fallen hard, Sophie talked herself out of marital suicide by agreeing to marry, Patrick’s best friend the stodgy but kind Braddon, aka Lord Saslow. Braddon would be safe and kind and if she wasn’t in love, he could never break her heart.
Unfortunately, Patrick was furious! He had offered for Sophie and she turned him down flat! And she agreed to marry Braddon? Not only that but Sophie wanted to elope and Braddon talked Patrick into climbing a ladder and bringing Sophie to Braddon to explain why he couldn’t accommodate an elopement. And then of course, both Sophie and Patrick’s electrifying attraction saved the day as they both answered the call of magnetic attraction, calling for a hasty wedding.
Filled with such a believable storyline, and narrated by the excellent voice overs of Susan Daerden, this was an absolute pleasure to listen to. Ms. James knows how to put together enough angst, mis-communications, misconstrued feelings, jealousy and betrayals to fill the pages with a story that sped along and one didn’t want to stop listening to.
Bottom line: I have nothing but the highest praise for both this author, MIDNIGHT PLEASURES and the amazing narration by one of the best book performers out there. Can’t wait to read/listen to the third book in this fabulous trilogy!

Great sequel

I've been thinking lately that Regency romances have become too predictable, but this book was different. There are four plot strands intertwined deftly and smoothly into a tale of love, humor, loss, hope, and intrigue. It held my attention completely, with no lulls in the progress of the story. I got so wrapped up in the lives if the characters, it felt like I knew them. I chuckled a few times, and cried, too.
I liked this book very much.
The narrator is a new favorite of mine. She sounds like a native when speaking French, and did both male and female voices better than 90% of narrators. I'll be looking for more of her work.
One negative: When the heroine's hair is described as blonde, golden, the color of honey, and red-gold, the lady on the cover should not have hair that is deep, dark mahogany, almost black.
I've already downloaded the next book in the series and look forward to starting it.
