About this listen

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life comes “frothy fun . . . Faster than a swiping Visa, more powerful than a two-for-one coupon, able to buy complete wardrobes in a single sprint through the mall—it’s Shopaholic!” (The Washington Post)

“Sophie Kinsella keeps her finger on the cultural pulse, while leaving me giddy with laughter.”—Jojo Moyes, author of The Giver of Stars and The Last Letter from Your Lover

Becky Brandon thinks that having a daughter is a dream come true: a shopping friend for life! But two-year-old Minnie has a quite different approach to shopping. The toddler creates havoc everywhere she goes, from Harrods to her own christening. On top of everything else, Becky and Luke are still living with her parents (the deal on house #4 has fallen through), when suddenly there’s a huge nationwide financial crisis.

With people having to cut back, Becky decides to throw a surprise party for Luke to cheer everyone up. But when costs start to spiral out of control, she must decide whether to accept help from an unexpected source—and therefore run the risk of hurting the person she loves. Will Becky be able to pull off the celebration of the year? Will she and Luke ever find a home of their own? Will Minnie ever learn to behave? And . . . most important . . . will Becky’s secret wishes ever come true?

Ugh! The accent! I CAN'T EVEN!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I liked the story, but the narrator's accent was quite possibly the worst faux British accent I have ever heard.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a fun, light-hearted read.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rosalyn Landor’s performances?

NO!

Sophie Kinsella does it again!

I've read all the Shopaholic books and I have enjoyed every one, especially the first three books because of Emily Gray's excellent narration and good "Becky voice". I was eagerly looking forward to the release of Kinsella's latest book in the series, as soon as I heard about it, but I'll admit I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the other books. But happily I was mistaken! Mini Shopaholic is just as fun and hilarious as the others. I couldn't stop listening. I was a little hesitant to get this audiobook because of the narrator since it wasn't Emily Gray and she's my favorite for this series, but Rosalyn Landor did a wonderful job. Even though her voice is more mature, I think it works for Becky in this book since she is supposed to be older and therefore, have an older-sounding voice.

Amazing range of voices

I look to Audible reviews for information on how the narration is, not the story, because it's so hard to find that anywhere else. So as far as the book itself goes, I'll only say that I love the Shopaholic books, I think they're really funny and yes compulsive debtors do think the way she does, all the time; I love this particular one, and found the story arcs really satisfying; and I do hope that someday she allows Becky to get into recovery and grow past the Shopaholic thing!

Now for the audiobook. I haven't been listening to audiobooks long, but I've listened to quite a range so far and this is the best of them all. Most narrators at least try to make the characters sound different, but even good narrators often have difficulty with different genders. By contrast, Landor's male characters have such great, authentically male-sounding voices that I repeatedly checked to see if there were two narrators working on this book!

She does a great job on every gender, accent, and age. The worst thing I can say about her work is that Danny's American accent is sometimes a trifle Britishy. But he's also very pompous, and in Americans that often ends up coming off a little Britishy. We want to sound posh too!

I feel like I understand the characters better from her reading, and I've been reading these books on my own since they came out.

Probably the best thing I can say about this audiobook is that I listened to it even though I had just read the book on my own, and I loved it completely anyway - and I want to listen to it again soon! Normally, I wouldn't want to re-read a book for ages. Total ear candy.

Fun!

If you liked the other "shopaholic" books, you will probably like this one. Actually, I liked it better than some of the others in the series. It's silly fun. Enjoy.

Great ending, a little annoying to get there

I love the shopaholic series but the story line for this book felt so ridiculous I kept wanting to give up on the book. But I’m glad I didn’t. Becky comes through in the end like she always does.

Story was, as always, fantastic.

I always enjoy this series.
I laugh, happy cry, relate, and want more, lol.
This is the perfect light hearted read when everything else is too heavy.
The narration for this book was not my favorite but not bad…that’s my only issue and it’s easy get past.

Bring back Emily Gray!

Love Sophie Kinsella and am loving the audiobook so far, but really dread hearing Rosalyn Landor read anything! She's just not a good fit, in my opinion, with Becky. The first audiobooks narrated by Emily Gray were great - she should've done every Shopaholic book!!

sophies getting bored

Somehow, this book just isn't her best. Its storyline is ok, and the author keeps on with her sense of humor, but I'm not that interested in child rearing or parenting problems. Keep it grown-up ok Sophie? - leave the kid home in Hollywood!
