About this listen

An inspiring story of hope, redemption, and trying to hit the ball straight.

A year ago Travis McKinley, an unknown golfing amateur, shocked the world by winning the PGA Senior Open at Pebble Beach. Now he's famous, he makes his living playing the game he loves, and everything should be perfect. Still Travis can't shake the feeling that he's a fraud, an imposter who doesn't deserve his success - and after a series of disappointments and, to be honest, personal screwups, he might just prove himself right.

A shot at redemption arrives in an unexpected form: a teenage outcast with troubles of his own - and a natural golf swing. As this unlikely duo sets out to achieve the impossible on the world's most revered golf course, Travis is about to learn that sometimes the greatest miracles of all take place when no one is watching.

Great golfing story

This book was filled with references that golfers will relate with. Nice story line and plot with a predictable and fulfilling ending.

Cute Story, Limited Golfing Knowledge

Any additional comments?

I'm a little sappy. So I enjoy a cute story. I love golf, so a cute story about golf is even better. From the standpoint of a cute story, I enjoyed the book overall. And the reader did a great job which is always huge. However, there were nagging details that caused me to not enjoy the book as much as I otherwise would. The way the school bullying was described was very unrealistic. Things about the pro game were unrealistic or inaccurate. But, the biggest thing was Patterson doesn't know how to keep score. If you hit a drive, lose your second shot, take a drop and hit the next shot on the green, YOU ARE PUTTING FOR A FIVE NOT A FOUR!

Fantastic, but only if you are a golf fanatic

First of all, this is NOT James Patterson, but another of his collaborations. It reminds me a little of some of John Grisham's dalliances into "feeling good." It is not a suspense, but is simply a lesson in caring for other people. Luckily, I have a passing knowledge of golf, so I was able to keep up with all of it. If you are not a golf fan, you will probably hate this book. Even if you are a fan, it is a little slow and boring, but I will say the lessons learned in the end are good for all. Otherwise, this book would have been rated 1 or 2. The scenes and matches are very descriptive and the author definitely understood and used simile. I just found the story to be boring and not what I expected.

Crime Does Pay

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Author a bully suspended golfer takes a smart ass polish teen under his wing to trespass and lie their way on to Augusta National Golf Course. A terrible example for kids.

Would you ever listen to anything by James Patterson again?

Perhaps.

Would you be willing to try another one of Henry Leyva’s performances?

Yes.

What character would you cut from Miracle at Augusta?

The smart ass teen.

Any additional comments?

A great disappointment.
