Conveys all the adventure that modern travel can

With lots of pluck Tim Jenkins does accomplish missions of a great variety, from the childhood bully, to deep sea diving and priests? of a wholly different order. Follow Tim from youth to earfly overseas jobs like teaching English to becoming a business wheeler and dealer. I have done a bit of traveling myself and I know its a whole different ball game when lives are at stake or you are doing business I read a handful of big time true adventure books in recent years where I suddenly exclaimed, "I can't believe this guy is unscathed, or to be more true, can't believe he is still with us writing this book!" It's a good thing and called being a winner. Missions Accomplished, Amen.

Good narration, disappointing book

I was hoping to hear of interesting foreign customs, funny misunderstandings, strange people, wild (mis)adventures, etc. Instead, I got mildly amusing anecdotes that mostly involved the author's friends and could really have been set anywhere -- no travel-specific details required (or present).

It's well-written, but when I say "mildly amusing", I mean *very* mildly. The author's style and narrator's skill renders them tolerable, but when you get right down to it this book features such amazing and entertaining stories as "my friend almost missed a flight, but in the end he didn't" or "I took a taxi and it was OK" or "we ordered some wine at a French cafe and it was decent".

No, that's not an uncharitably reductive way of describing them -- that's really and literally all that happened in those stories, no surprising or interesting details omitted. At first I kept getting surprised when a story would end without any points of interest or amusing twists or fascinating details, but eventually I learned to expect nothing beyond "we went to this place and had an OK, regular time".

Disappointing, but not terrible.

A great amalgam of vignettes

Missions Accomplished was a very entertaining series of short stories that are easy to digest, especially for the reader on the go.

Packed with tips and tricks learned through a number of fun anecdotal scenarios throughout his life, Tim Jenkins (& narrator Christopher Smith) capture the hectic stories of his travels across the globe in vivid detail. I felt like I was really in that van with Mr. Wang careening to and from the Great Wall outside of Beijing, or across the street from that construction site in Sao Paulo on that hot, sweaty day.

Overall this book was a fun read and I definitely recommend it for those who like a good story efficiently told with emotive narration. It was very entertaining, and will provide the reader/listener with insights of international travel.

Boring!

I had high hopes for this book but what a disappointment! It's a tedious book, badly written and poorly read!
