About this listen

After a year of grand adventures touring the classical ruins of Italy and Greece, Iphiginia Bright returned to England to discover that the real excitement was at home. It seems that her Aunt Zoe has fallen victim to a sinister blackmailer and only Iphiginia can hope to stop the culprit before he can do more harm. Her plan is inspired: Imitating history's most legendary beauties--Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, Aphrodite--the former schoolmistress will remake herself, and descend upon London Society as the dazzling mistress of Marcus Valerius Cloud, the infamous Earl of Masters.

Rumors hint that the Earl has disappeared at the blackmailer's hands, and by posing as his unknown mistress, Iphiginia is convinced she can ferret out the villain. Overnight, Iphiginia is transformed into a vision with a host of eager admirers, including one she does not expect -- the Earl of Masters himself, who strides into a shimmering ballroom one evening to cooly reclaim his "mistress".He is everything they say he is... arrogant, attractive, devastatingly seductive, and Iphiginia can't help but be enthralled. But when Marcus agrees to play along with her charade, she doesn't know that the determined earl has plans of his own: to tease and tempt her, until the beautiful deceiver becomes more than his mistress in name only.

bad production

The quality of the production was bad. The background noise was overly loud and there was music placed at odd intervals. My advice is to stick with the written book instead with this one.

A fun read.

I liked this one when I read it, and I like the audiobook. Harriet Walter does a great job with the narration. Too bad they didn't get her to read all of them. Stay away from any books read by Ann Flosnik.

Get the unabridged!

Sure, an abridged novel has all the essentials, but this was definitely worth the extra time spent listening. I really wasted a credit with the purchase of the unabrided version. Besides which, you don't want to miss a word written by Amanda Quick.

Bad Recording

The recording sounded like it was recorded on an an LP in a large stadium. The audio is far from clear and regret spending money on this. It's a shame as I like this author.

Abridgement

I really dislike books that have been abridged. I wish all books were unabridged. I have read this book several times and missed the rest of the story. It completely ruined the story for me.

Hard to understand

Would you try another book from Amanda Quick and/or Harriet Walter?

I like Amanda Quick.

What was most disappointing about Amanda Quick’s story?

Don't really know, since I stopped listening during first chapter. Unable to understand Harriet Walter's reading. Very poor audio quality!

How could the performance have been better?

Improve audio quality, never had this problem with any of your books.

What character would you cut from Mistress?

Don't know, sorry!

it's abridged

I didn't realize this was abridged until too late. It is typical Amanda Quick, the story is so-so, perhaps better if it were unabridged. The narrator was OK, personally I was glad it wasn't the usual woman. So, if this is your thing, and you're looking for a quickie listen, there is nothing 'wrong' with this one.

Mistress is a good story

This story is very good if you have the whole book. Do not bother with the short version there is not enough of it to make any sense.

Good Story

I bought this book to listen to a story not music. The Music coming in all the time over the narrators voice was painful. Story line was good and I enjoyed that
