Publisher's summary

Affair introduces Charlotte Arkendale, an industrious young woman who provides a very special service. Wealthy women hire her to check the qualifications of their suitors. When one of Charlotte’s loveliest clients is murdered, she hires the darkly handsome Baxter St. Ives to be her assistant and bodyguard. But as they pool their powers of deduction and begin to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder, they also uncover the force of a powerful, and mutual, chemistry. Liberally laced with passion, the intrigue swirls, and the plot thickens around Charlotte and her handsome colleague.

The men of St Ives do everything with style

Another Quick novel that stands the test of rereading.
Two strong minded people who don't trust romantic attractions and also have learned to carve their own way in the world, come together because of a murder. There is lots of situational and conversational humor, and a swashbuckling envisioning near the end.
If you are lucky enough to get the audio, you will be glad that Barbara Rosenblatt is the audio performer.

Good story, decent narrator.

Amanda Quick addresses women's issues of the time without belaboring the point or anachronism. Always a good story. Not my favorite narrator, but certainly very listenable.

What A Story! What An Affair!

This was a well-crafted story...I just kept listening until the very end! But then Amanda Quick is certainly the Mistress of Romance Storytelling--that can't be denied! And Barbara Rosenblat--her narration was beyond excellent!

Entertaining

Where does Affair rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed it. It's like watching an old movie. It's light, has a story and you feel good listening.

Not a bad story but bad recording

Would you consider the audio edition of Affair to be better than the print version?

No. And it's sad because it could have been.

Any additional comments?

This was a classic Amanda Quick novel. And i wanted to love the audio. The narrator was good, the story was good, and if they had given the guy coughing in the background for a good portion of the book at random times a cough drop it would have been a five star read for me.

Narrator

Rosenblat-Did an excellent job as narrator. Really brought the Victorian
Times and characters to life. Very descriptive. Love the mystery!

Marvelous, Witty, and Unbelievable Destiny!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read and listened to a great number of Amanda Quck's offerings, and this one is so different from the others that it was like a breath of fresh air. Not to say I don't enjoy all of her books, I do, but this one is so different! Yes, I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good listen.

What other book might you compare Affair to and why?

A comparison does not come to mind, this book takes all of the cliché of romance novels, and turns them into great entertainment. So I guess the whole thing is that there is no comparison in my library!

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have just recently listened to Wicked Widow by Amanda Quick also done by Ms Rosenblat. She is a marvelous reader, and lends more dimension to the characters of the book. I am looking forward to getting more of her readings in the near future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I have a terrible time putting the iPod down and getting about other things when I start a book, and this one was no exception. It was marvelous!

Any additional comments?

The wit in this book was wonderful. The dissertation of the old butler on the scream in the laboratory had me giggling at odd moments for the rest of the day!

I love Affair

This is one of my favorite books. I have read it several times just for comfort when I am down. Can not get a better mystery with romance.
