Publisher's summary

The Changed are on the move. The Spared are out of time. The End…is now. When her parents died, Alex thought things couldn't get much worse - until the doctors found the monster in her head. She headed into the wilderness as a good-bye, to leave everything behind. But then the end of the world happened, and Alex took the first step down a treacherous road of betrayal and terror and death. Now, with no hope of rescue - on the brink of starvation in a winter that just won't quit - she discovers a new and horrifying truth. The Change isn't over. The Changed are still evolving. And…they've had help. With this final volume of The Ashes Trilogy, Ilsa J. Bick delivers a riveting, blockbuster finish, returning listeners to a brutal, post-apocalyptic world where no one is safe and hope is in short supply. A world where, from these ashes, the monsters may rise.

Stop screaming in my ear

While all in all this story was OK the narrator's high pitch voice screaming everything, sometimes three times in a row, "GO GO GO!" "NO NO NO!" "GET UP GET UP GET UP!" non-stop in my ear became a personal challenge to finish "I bought this series so by god i will FINISH FINISH FINISH!"

Not your typical Apocalyptical story!!

I absolutley loved this book! It was beyond amazing. At points, I, ME who never gets scared was terrified! I really was. It was OMG will this ever end kind of scared. It was an unknown kind of scared. Author Ilsa J Bick has an amazing talent of writing this genre. Her characters, her story line, her EVERYTHING is over the top! If you love end of world type of books, zombie-like books, survival of end books THIS SERIES IS FOR YOU! BUT BE WARNED...there is more to this series than just your typical-the world is ended we need to survive. There is so much emotion, so much to learn about human species in general. It is actualy an emotional rollercoaster! I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!!!!! **I am putting this SAME review on all three books of this series. I will not give away an spoilers and just encourage you read this series. The narrator is FAN FREAKING TASTIC!!!!!!!

EMP causes all kinds of trouble.

This is the third book in the series. An EMP wipes out modern technology, and also zaps the higher brain functions of a certain percentage of humanity. The "changed" are not zombies. Most of the higher brain functions are gone, but they are more dangerous than you might think, because they retain the ability to think, plan, work together, and use simple tools. Up to a point, they can even use weapons. Fortunately, they can feel pain, they retain the instinct of self-preservation, unlike the traditional zombie, and they are susceptible to injury and death.

Katherine Kellgren is one of the best narrators I have ever listened too. She has a clear, pleasant voice, and an expressive style that carries you right into the story with her. I hope she will read more books like this.

One of the best narrations I've listened to. This trilogy was thought provoking and intriguing.

impressed

I didn't think I would like it but after first book I had to find out what was going to happen next. it was an entertainment ride and it was the narrator that I was shocked most of all that I enjoyed how excited she got.

Glad it was over, too many shifts.......

I really enjoyed book 1 & 2, saying that 3 had 120+ chapters, it went back and forth between characters: Alex, Chris, Peter, Ellie until you didn't really know where you were then dang if there wasn't the beginning of another chapter, and all there was to this book was fighting, the plot picked up toward the end but just felt like it dropped off all of a sudden. I didn't really enjoy this book due to narration was constant urgency, it felt redundant, there were too many chapters, the characters didn't move on, the end was great but it should have been drawn out more than the middle, like 17 hours of middle. Seriously was glad it was over, didn't think it was EVER going to be over. So I'm middle of the road in recommending. If the above doesn't bother you try it.

Katy Kellgren deserves an award for this series!

I received a review copy of this book from Netgalley and was totally stoked! I chanced upon the series on audible and could simply not wait to read what is going to happen next...
So I started reading but all was not well. Alex did not sound so strong in my mind. Tom sounded like a girl. And and and I had a lightbulb moment. The story is even better than the proceeding two. The pace was fast and action packed BUT what was missing was their voices. Alex sounds deep, strong and wise beyond her years. Tom sounds tough, sexy and mysterious. In my mind they all sounded like me!

So I waited and bought this audible copy and voila! Lightbulb. I was missing the narrator! Katy is totally brilliant. Alex when calm and collected sounds strong and self assured. In crises she breathes harder and her voice rise an octave or 8 but she is still undoubtedly Alex!

The story, the final in this series is truly brilliant and even better than the first two books in the series.
By now you know how I feel about the narrator.

Overall this series has made it to my top 5 series of all times.
I am generally not a fan of female narrators but I must confess that I will need to reasses my take on the male vs female narrator brilliance.

Can I give it more than 5*? I really want to give it a perfect 10!

Interesting but I don't believe it was worth the money.

Hard to follow when you are trying to do something else. Seemed long and drawn out. Lots of swearing and foul language

Not as good as Ashes.

Again just like shadows this book was told from way to many perspectives. Not happy with conclusion either.
