Monsters and Mortals Lived Up to High Expectations

After listening to the audiobook of The Hunter and the Bringer, I had to continue the adventures of Val and Jeremy.  I quickly pledged for the audiobook for the sequel book, Monsters and Mortals.  As soon as I received my copy, I started listening to it.  I had great intentions of immediately writing a review but life got in the way so here it is many months late.

Sometimes sequel stories just cannot recreate the magic of the first book. But sometimes the sequel meets and exceeds the original story.  Monsters and Mortals doesn't disappoint but exceeds the amazing story of The Hunter and the Bringer.

Monsters and Mortals is An Amazing adventure story with incredible characters and plot.  The plot moves forward at a good pace as we explore the characters in further depth.  Monsters and Mortals takes us across Europe and back searching for the big bad. The descriptions of the settings are vibrant and exciting.

The combination of the voices of Lexi and Logan brought me completely into the tremendous story that Morgan Straughan Comnick created. Lexi Evans and Logan Anare continue their amazing work as they narrate and voice the characters.  Lexi continues to enraptures me with her voice of Val.  Logan's voicing of Jeremy both annoys me and makes me like him at the same time.  I love their interaction and how they play off of each other. Their acting is top-notch. If I needed voice actors for anything, these two would be at the top of the list.

I loved the story in Monsters and Mortals.  The adventure is high-flying as they have to take on numerous Monstrium including fairies, a Siren, and much more.  The characters grow and the story becomes equal parts about the relationship with Jeremy and Val.

Morgan adds a ton of humor to this book.  I find myself laughing at what the characters are doing and saying to each other. The banter between Val and Jeremy cracked me up. One line that makes me still laugh out loud is Val calling Jeremy, "Prince Dick in a Can."

I have been on Team Val since the beginning. I still am Team Val but ... Morgan's writing and Logan's acting made me really like Jeremy.  I always associated his characters with some of the bullies from my childhood.  After learning his background, I have to like him too.  I did message Morgan and told her, "Darn it Morgan, you made me really like Jeremy after all."  Don't get me wrong, I think Val is still too good for Jeremy but I do like him now.

I am a fanboy of this univsere.  It would be so fun to create this as a roleplaying game universe.  Roleplaying as either a Bringer or Hunter would be really KOOL to do.

Delightful!

This unique story is the second installment in the Hunter and Bringer series. At first, I wasn't used to the genre, but once I realized it's stylized as an Otaku, specifically, in this case, written like an anime or Manga, then I REALLY enjoyed it. Book 2 delves deeper into the characters' backstories and motivation. I really hope the author writes a 3rd book in the series!
