About this listen

The de Vincent brothers are back - and so is the intrigue that surrounds them - in New York Times best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel....

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up...and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother.

Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected - especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman...one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe - and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

Wish they had kept original male narrator

Gabe’s story is every bit as good as Lucien’s, but the male narrator is so different from the first book that it detracts from the story some. It might not have mattered had I not listened to the two books back to back. The male narrator in this book is pretty monotone. I almost wish they had just had the female narrator do this book alone as she puts much more emotion and well, life, into the characters, even when in the male voice. If I didn’t want to hear Devlin’s story so badly I would skip it knowing it has the same male narrator.

It’s hard not to love these brothers...

The mystery keeps going with the middle brother that is looked at as the “good one.” Nikki grew up with the brothers and knew how they operated, but there was always something about Gabe that caught her eye. A “mistake” happened one night and then she was off to college putting her past behind her until her Mom got sick. She returned home and filled in for her mom and she soon found out the drama never left the de Vincent brothers and she also realized she still was in love with Gabe. Is it worth almost getting killed for? Is he worth it? Is this family truly cursed? Nikki navigates uncharted murky waters now that she is older and back at the de Vincent home. The question is.. will Nikki and Gabe survive it?

I give this book 5 stars! Again, it’s adult and steamy, but the story gets better with each book of the de Vincent brothers. Mystery, curses, and the Louisiana setting are perfect and chilling at the same time!

Still Love the Accent

I loved this one even better than the first one! Gabe was particularly intense and the age difference was even awesome.

Great series by a great author!

Not as good as book one

This book needed more development- of the characters and story. It glazed over the surface. Still, there is some interest there. The fact that the MFC gives the MMC a third chance, is bonkers. I would have run and sought out therapy.

Gabe, Gabe, Gabe. (Shakes head)

The de Vincents have always had an air about them. The intrigue. The stories. The rumors. Talks of curses. Not to mention the amount of money this old family controls. They are considered gods among men for their power, their looks, and their heritage. Everything about them screams untouchable. Inhuman. Dangerous.

Except to a little girl who grew in their shadows. Nikki was the cliche. Poor little girl following behind the rich older guy she fancied herself in love with. Desperate for attention, love, and her happily ever after. It didn't work out that way for her and she left with her tail between her legs.

Fast forward a few years and now she's back. Everything and nothing has changed. The rumors still exist. People still speculate. And even Nikki is beginning to believe the curse.

I love this series because it has this vibe that borders on paranormal because of the curse and the various unexplained activities. But at the same time, many of those acts are later explained. At first I thought the de Vincents were vampires. (Anne Rice vampires. Not the sparkly ones. They aren't. At all.) Then though I'm not a believer, I started questioning my need for voodoo magic or hexes. Clearly much more is going on in this house...

And it is. It soooooo is. Lucian's story was a lot to take in. But wow, this rollercoaster is a whole new ride. Gabe's story has a whopper of a reveal. It has a history you wouldn't expect. It is a whiskey neat and keep them coming kind of story. Unrequited love, a stage 5 clinger, and a undefined...something will all keep you whirling through this story is sheer disbelief, shock, and of course your guard will be up...Until you fall hard and fast for the middle de Vincent brother. It was nice knowing you!

I cannot wait to watch Dev crumble. I know. I'm assuming a lot because this is Dev but the bigger they are the harder they fall right!?!
Moonlight Scandals release is just around the corner.

Worse than vocal fry...

The storyline was as expected and I had no qualms with the way things played out. The story was enjoyable and I liked getting to know recurring characters a little better. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with Devlin in the next book.

Picky and entirely subjective: Erin Mallon’s voice is painful for me to listen to in this book. If she’d narrated the first one, I probably wouldn’t still be listening to the series and I’m relieved the third book is a different narrator. I listened to a couple of interviews and her voice is very pleasant in those. She seems great! I’m not sure why her performance style includes drawing out the last syllable of every sentence. It’s like a weird mix between an evangelical preacher and Duke Nukem. And her male impersonations are breathy like Napoleon Dynamite. It’s so bizarre and impossible for me to ignore. But I got through it and I’ll be on the lookout for anything else she narrates. I’ve definitely learned to sample audio first!

Emotional Rollercoaster - In a good way!

This is my 2nd book by Jennifer Armentrout - the de Vincent series is my first series by her...it will certainly not be the last. She is great at mapping out accurate, believable emotions within her characters - which made the relationship believable. As a woman who was once felt puppy love for someone so unreachable as a friend’s much older brother, Nic’s feelings & perspective were so relatable when it came to Gabe...thank the lord that man came to his senses though, because if he acted defensive or hurtful one more time toward Nic, wheww..,I was about to go full Rosie on him - and whip out a voodoo doll. He needed to recognize & handle his feelings, and exhibit the emotional maturity that he’d need as a father. I loved the chemistry between them - the sexual tension between them was absolutely palpable, and created a sensual/sexy vibe. I love JLA, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to have all of her books/series at my fingertips! She’s something special!

Jennifer L. Armentrout never disappoints

As always, Jennifer L. Armentrout spins another adventurous romance. She has a knack for creating characters that you root for and care about. I love this trilogy, with its interlocked plot and characters. It makes you feel like you’re really a part of the mysterious world of the de Vincent family.
