Moons & Runes

A great start to what I’m sure will be a very entertaining series.

This is the first time I’ve listened to one of Martine Cullum’s stories. I enjoyed how the storyline progressed. The glimpses of the past gave wonderful background and I loved how each character was introduced and grew.

The narration by Mary L Phillips was very well done. I was drawn into the story from the very beginning and her performance kept me entertained.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Past & The Present Together

This was my first experience with Martine Cullum's work, and it was entertaining. The story intermingled what was happening in the past with current events happening in the life of Thea, a resident of "Casslewich". I enjoyed both parts of the story and found them charming. I liked the characters. I admired the worldbuilding. The supernatural elements added a magical touch to the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Mary L Phillips' narration was fun, and her performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.

Unputdownable Magic

Moons & Runes: Legacy is a gem in contemporary fantasy, effortlessly drawing listeners into a labyrinth of magic, heritage, and uncharted powers. Thea Dawson, navigating her unexpected magical inheritance, captures hearts, embodying vulnerability entwined with burgeoning strength.

Martine Cullum's narrative is a cauldron of ancient lore and modern chaos, set within the enigmatic confines of 'The Pentacle.' The setting oozes mystique, practically pulsating with untold secrets and mystical happenings. Cullum masters the art of narrative alchemy, blending the arcane with relatable human experiences, all within a compact, fast-paced plot.

But it's the audio rendition that transforms reading into a vivid experience. Characters leap from their pages, assuming unmistakable identities through voice alone, placing listeners at the epicenter of magical upheavals. It's a testament to skilled storytelling where ears, not just eyes, define one's journey.

In a nutshell, the book is a compact powerhouse of witchy allure and intrigue. A swift, enchanting audiobook that proves sometimes, the best magic lies in brevity. Waiting eagerly for the next installment!

For the Love of Magic

This book is a phenomenal magical cozy mystery that had me hooked from the beginning until the end. The characters and storyline are strong, descriptive, and well written. The author really brings each characters personality to life. The past and present stories are so seamlessly interwoven together that you can't help but keep listening so you won't miss a thing. This may be a slow burn, but it does burn bright. There are twists and turns, but it is one magical thrill ride. The narrator has the type of voice that helps you to close your eyes and see the story as if you are watching a movie. She is on point with every voice and personality. I received this book for free upon my request, but that has nothing to do with this honest, unbiased review that I am leaving here voluntarily.

Started slow but picked up speed quickly afterward

At first, I wasn't sure that I was going to get into this story as it started out a little slowly. But once the story picked up, you start to love the characters and their little quirks. I think, by far, Summer is my favorite character. She's so bubbly and eccentric.

Just when I thought I understood what was going on, I was wrong. I'm sad for poor Barnes. (You'll find out eventually, no spoilers here.) I hope things turn around for him in the second book in this series. (Which I started minutes from the time I finished the first.)

I'd like to thank the author for an audio book copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A perfect escape into a new age cozy mystery

Wow what an amazing palette cleanser. I’ve never ready cozy fantasy before and wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it, but this has certainly set the bar high.

This book made me feel like I was curled up in a cozy chair, by a fireplace, with a blanket and hot cocoa (or insert preferred hot beverage here) while it snowed peacefully outside.

The narrator really helps to set the mood with her calm, dulcet tone. Honestly, she was the perfect narrator for this book. I loved all the characters, and became enthralled with the story as we discovered more about the characters, the community, and were introduced to a few mysteries and challenges. I feel these mystery elements were just the right amount to keep the plot moving along. Most mysteries were solved but some will undoubtedly allow the reader to join the characters as they discover more about their own histories and abilities in subsequent books.

Honestly, this world was expertly crafted to welcome the reader and allow us to escape as we’re introduced to the residents of the pentacle and learn how a positive and collaborative approach can be quite successful. This is a great book to read after a long day at work. I can’t wait to see where the adventure leads our intrepid sleuths.

Magic and mystery

An enchanting start to this series. A gentle slow burn mystery unfolds as friends rally to protect a legacy and a very special ancient oak tree. The story moves between events in the past and the modern day. Evocative and immersive, the narrator brings life to the characters, each of whom is clearly distinguished. I especially liked that the accent of the betrayer caused me to dislike them immediately. The magic system is well thought out and consistent with general beliefs concerning Gaia, the Earth Goddess. The description of the Tarot readings prompted me to check my own deck of cards and review their meanings. The threat that brought the protagonists together births The Moons & Runes Private Investigation Agency. Moons & Runes Investigation awaits its next case. I am so looking forward to the next audio book in this series.

A Mesmeric Blend of Legacy, Lore, and Love

I'm utterly smitten with Martine Cullum's "Moons & Runes: Legacy". It's the opening act of the Moons & Runes Private Investigators series, and oh boy, what a dazzling intro it is!

Meet Thea Dawson, our brilliant protagonist, who's thrown headfirst into the deep end, trying to juggle her family's ancient legacy with some freshly discovered magical powers. And the setting? An atmospheric New Age store named 'The Pentacle'. It's the kind of place you'd want to hang out in all day, sipping herbal tea and browsing through old spellbooks.

Cullum truly shines in her storytelling. She effortlessly weaves friendship, romance, and a touch of 18th-century witchcraft into a narrative that keeps you glued. The way she flits between the present and historical times is nothing short of captivating. You get this amazing sense of being connected to a story much larger than yourself, one that spans centuries.

And let's talk about the audio experience. The narration is top-tier. Every character comes alive, making you feel like you're right in the middle of this magical whirlwind. The narrator truly transports you into Thea's world, making every twist and turn all the more exhilarating.

In essence, if you're scouting for an urban fantasy that's packed with heart, soul, and a sprinkle of enchantment, "Moons & Runes: Legacy" is your jam. Dive in, and let it sweep you off into a world where magic isn't just real, but it's deeply personal. I can't wait for the next ride in this series!

Witch Detectives

This was a fun story. It would make a good young adult book, but enjoyable for adult reading as well. This is my first exposure to this author. I enjoyed it enough I went ahead and selected her next book, before even finishing this one! The writing is quirky, fun, sometimes funny. The narration was perfect. It was a pleasure to listen to. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.
