About this listen

Defending a woman accused of murdering the man who sexually assaulted her, Miami lawyer Jack Swyteck must uncover where the truth lies between innocence, vengeance, and justice in this spellbinding tale of suspense - based on shocking true-life events - from the New York Times best-selling author of Gone Again.

According to the FBI, the most dangerous place for a woman between the ages of 20 and 30 is in a relationship with a man. Those statistics become all too personal when Jack Swyteck takes on a new client tied to his past.

It begins at the airport, where Jack is waiting to meet his old high school buddy, Keith Ingraham, a high-powered banker based in Hong Kong, coming to Miami for his young daughter's surgery. But their long-awaited reunion is abruptly derailed when the police arrest Keith's wife, Isabelle, in the terminal, accusing her of conspiring to kill the man who raped her in college. Jack quickly agrees to represent Isa but soon discovers that to see justice done, he must separate truth from lies - an undertaking that proves more complicated than the seasoned attorney expects.

Inspired by an actual case involving a victim of sexual assault sent to prison for the death of her attacker, James Grippando's twisty thriller brilliantly explores the fine line between victim and perpetrator, innocence and guilt, and cold-blooded revenge and rightful retribution.

A Twisty and Complicated Thriller

The Jack Swyteck legal series are really interesting stories. So far, I have listened to six of James Grippando's novels. This story is about murder as payback for rape. But the story is complicated and nothing is as it seems.

The truth is not fully understood until the twist in the last paragraph of the novel. Most Dangers Place is a great addition to the Jack Swyteck legal series. The novel has a superb beginning and an even better ending, but in the middle the story slows a bit costing it a 5 star rating. Narration by Jonathan Davis is outstanding.

Not what I expected at all. Normally I like his books. Not this one. Didn’t understand the final outcome of the book

Totally Absorbing

At first I didn't think it would hold my attention, but before I knew it I was hooked. A very fine tale, well structured, good characterization and well delivered by an excellent narrator.

A Flawed But Enjoyable "Read"

This is one of those books which could have been great instead of just being very good. The book tells an intriguing story which carefully builds the suspense from a difficult case for Jack to an almost impossible one. What mitigates against this book are several major factual and legal errors which are glaring. I am a lawyer but I asked my wife (a non-lawyer) to read the book and she came away with the same factual and legal problems that I saw. I really do not want to give away the book but the issues relate to the pretrial disclosures, a pivotal deposition and just plain inconsistent chronologies. The mistakes made the “willing suspension of disbelief” very difficult. Having said all of that, I still recommend the book and the performance. Both are top drawer.

Excellent legal thriller; outstanding narration

As one expects from author James Grippando, Most Dangerous Place he tells a great story that is relevant to current events. In doing so he builds suspense with in courtroom and out of court action. At its simplest the story is about murder in retribution for rape, but this is a very complex novel with nothing being as it seems. The truth does is not fully understood until the twist in the last paragraph of the novel. Most Dangers Place is a great addition to the Jack Swyteck legal series. The novel has a superb beginning and an even better ending, but in the middle the story slows a bit costing it a 5 star rating. Narration by Jonathan Davis is outstanding.

Never a dull moment

Every time I thought I had it figured out, something new was thrown into the story that changed my mind. Jack Swytek is always great -- and glad to see his friend Theo included in the story. For new Swytek fans, Theo may have been a bit of a puzzle. It's the best mystery I have read this year.
