About this listen

Book three in the Something in the Way series. Includes an exclusive Q&A with the author-only available in the audiobook! "One of the best books of 2017 I've read." -- USA Today's Happy Ever After

Lake

It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I'd known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced--and I'd trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I'd held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost. A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I'll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him.

Manning

When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction--away from me. But now that she's gone, would I have made those same choices? I'd walked away like I was supposed to. I'd kept my distance. I'd bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she's no longer that girl, and I don't know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don't want to. She's still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it's her great bear in the sky.

Fully Satisfied. Totally worth the wait.

I was captivated from beginning to end. This couple had so many hurdles on their road to happiness but it made the ending that much sweeter.

All the ups and downs had me in a chokehold

I'm not always a reader that binges a series, but I am so happy that I did with this one because I don't know how much more my heart could take. I took about a week off between books 2 and 3, but I noticed my mind was still on these characters and their journey. I was consumed by them each day and couldn't get them out of my head. After the way book 2 ended, I was kind of frustrated and didn't see this for them. I felt a little broken. Then comes Move the Stars and we fast forward a few years.

I'm not going to say much about the storyline or what happens, but this was originally a trilogy so we know this journey has to come together at some point, right? But as with the other books, happiness does not come smoothly or easily for Lake and Manning and it is heartbreaking and full of angst and made me an emotional wreck. The different locations. The friendships. The relationships. The growing up of both characters through the 90's to the 00's. The pain and suffering. The love and losses. It all takes it toll and it all comes together in such a way that even though your heart may be wrecked, the journey WILL be worth it.

And the audiobook? Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a heck of a job bringing this story to life. It was full of emotions and had me captivated from beginning to end. The one small issue I had was that we built so much up in books 1 and 2 without skipping over too many years and this book skips through the years more than the previous 2. But did it work? Absolutely!
Jessica Hawkins did an amazing job with creating a world where 2 people that were destined had to WORK for it. This wasn't just a a few years of working through the unthinkable. This was YEARS! She gave us everything and went against the grain. The ups and downs. The side to side. Everything. Intense but epic in its own right. In the end, I'm glad she gave this trilogy one more book. On to Lake and Manning....

Big fan but not of this book

Gosh, I’m a huge Jessica Hawkins fan. I’ve read almost all her books. This was a big trilogy that I wanted to finish. First book peaked my curiosity, second book was ehhh. This last one was okay. This is my least favorite trilogy of hers. At one one I was rooting for Corbin🤣 I would have loved him for Lake.

Two Great Narrators Paired on this Great Listen

Awesome continuation in the saga, but if you listen/read it first it can be a stand-a-lone and not miss out on the main points of history, but listening/reading each book individually is sooooo worth it! I can't wait for the fourth and final book in this epic saga.

Incredible Story

I finished this book in one day. I couldn’t stop listening to it. I was so tangled up in Lake and Manning’s lives and I had to know how their love story turned out.
For me their story was riddled with life’s struggles and a love so strong that regardless of how many obstacles that were put in their way they found the courage to carry on.
Seeing how they grew up in so many ways and how much they matured was a huge part of the story.
I feel the author put so much of herself into this book and I appreciate the way she portrayed the characters.
I’m definitely looking forward to listening to Book 4.

I can finally breathe

It’s been darn near 25 hours, but I can finally breathe. I don’t think it is a spoiler to say that you get an HEA with this series. You deserve it. There is pain and torture and suffering and heartbreak and anxiety all throughout. I can finally breathe.

Lake and Manning are such complex characters, actually all of the characters are so complex. The layering is truly genius and an art form that Jessica Hawkins should be proud of. I have said this since book 1, that there just wasn’t enough joy and I still say that about this book as well. I really do feel the reader deserves a few slivers of happiness and although there were some in this book, I think the tone of the narration added to the morose feeling throughout. But when the ending came and the tears flowed and my hand flew to my mouth and I was gasping for breath, none of anything mattered besides Lake and Manning’s happy ending.

Andi and Zach work beautifully together.
