About this listen

Jessica Fletcher learns that the movie biz can make you, break you, or kill you....

Cabot Cove is about to be invaded - by Hollywood. One of Jessica's older novels is being made into a big-budget movie. The producer has decided to shoot most of the film on location in town, since the book was loosely based on a murder that shocked Cabot Cove over a decade earlier.

The murder occurred when a judge was gunned down while walking her dog. The prime suspect: an enraged husband whom the judge ruled against in a child custody case. But further investigation pointed to the victim's own husband - and ultimately to his mistress, accused of eliminating her rival.

Unfortunately, everyone on the set has a hidden agenda. A novice director wants his shot at the big-time. A fading star, making a comeback, has many unreasonable demands. Her astrologer sees trouble in the stars. And a stranger on the movie lot is stalking Jessica.

But fiction and reality fatally collide when the actress playing the judge is shot - the only witness her dog - and there's a cast and crew of possible suspects. With tensions between locals and the Hollywood horde mounting, Jessica must find the killer before anyone else is left on the cutting-room floor.

Another fun escape

Another fun escape to Cabot Cove, Maine. You may figure out one or both of the murders in this one, but it doesn't take away the enjoyment of a well-designed plot and familiar characters. Sit back, sip some tea, and enjoy.

Disappointing

The story was less interesting than other Murder, She Wrote books and the performance was good enough for the particular story. Overall, I found it disappointing.

Good book

Sandra Burr is the best Jessica Fletcher narrator. She sounds just like her and is excellent. The story was a typical Jessica Fletcher story. I enjoyed it.

Great novel and wonderfully narrated

I really enjoy Sandra Burr's narration of the MSW book series. Donald Bain really writes these mysteries as close to the tv version as possible.

Great combination of writer and narrator

Abundantly satisfying! Fifteen words are needed. So I'll humbly suggest, more of these books please.

A Good, Cute, Cozy Listen

I have enjoyed the Mrs. Fletcher audio books I've listened to, and the narrator, Sandra Burr, is superb (much better than Cynthia Darlow).

Close-up On Murder was very cozy, and, what I really liked, was set in Cabot Cove. So many of the later Mrs. Fletcher stories are set somewhere else (New York, London, etc), and I really prefer the cozy village setting.

The mystery was good, and the variety of characters were well drawn, easy to identify, and nice to "meet".

This is a formulaic (in a good way), classic Murder She Wrote story. If you liked the series, you will really like this book!! I've listened to a few Mrs. Fletcher books, and this one is among my favourites.

Why only four stars? Well, it was a fun read, but the nature of the book (being in a cozy series), was not a stand out. It was cozy, and fun, not earth-shattering or revolutionary.

This was ok

I love Mrs Fletcher and the story wasn't so bad but the narrator made Mrs Fletcher sound far too young.

Sandra Burr is fantastic yet again!

Donald Bain and Sandra Burr are a winning combination, and this one truly emphasizes it. I check back on Audible every so often to see if Sandra has made a return to the Jessica Fletcher role, but alas, no luck. This book here is one of the more exceptionally great stories and I've relistened to it at least 4 times. I recommend it wholeheartedly!
