About this listen

The USA Today bestselling Murder, She Wrote mystery series continues as Jessica Fletcher takes a relaxing getaway that turns into a reel deadly situation....

Jessica enters a fly fishing competition at a nearby lake. Joining her is the sheriff's wife, Maureen Metzger, who surprises Jess with her enthusiasm for the sport. Their guide, however, is a surprise to both....

Brian Kinney is an ex-con. Jailed as an accomplice to Darryl Jepson, a convicted killer, Brian was later exonerated, but not before spending seven years behind bars. He seems like a decent enough fellow. Just a man trying to rebuild his life as a family man and fishing guide.

Yet when Jepson breaks out of prison vowing revenge, and the lawyer for both men is found murdered, Cabot Cove becomes the focus of the nation as local, state, and federal authorities descend on Jessica's home town. And to add to the tension, Maureen has gone missing. Is she lost or is she a hostage? Jess soon finds herself caught in a net full of lies, deceit and ulterior motives. In order to save her friend, she'll need to find some answers by hook or by crook....

The plot was unique for a Murder She Wrote book, most of which are formulaic. This one takes place over an extremely condensed time frame and focuses on a kidnapping as opposed to a murder. The drawback is that a central character, Maureen Metzger, has a pre-teen voice despite being a middle-age or older adult. It’s the same voice this narrator uses for the son of Jessica Fletcher’s nephew Grady in several other works in the series. That character is an elementary/middle school boy. Because Maureen plays so key a role in this book it’s a bit distracting/annoying that she’s portrayed as a ten or twelve year old instead of the grown woman in the book.

Unique Murder She Wrote plot; Less stellar narration

I always loved the TV when I was little and the audible story was entertaining. Story has a slow start but progressively got better. Great for family listening.

This is probably one of my favorites. I am able to listen over and over again. Great story line it being set in the outdoors makes for an enjoyable change of atmosphere.

Amazing JB Fletcher outdoor mystery adventure!

I'm a Jessica Fletcher junkie, I love Donald Bain's Murder She Wrote series. I own most of the 40 or so books he's written since the series on television ended. That in itself the only sales pitch needed, the prolific Donald Gain has kept Jessica Fletcher popular 20+ years after the show went off the air. Sandra Burr does a fantastic job, she's ons of two narrators used for this series anfvmy personal favorite of the two. If you love cozy mysteries or are a Murder She Wrote fan, don't pass up the opportunity to go back to Cabot Cove where everything is just as you left it.

Highly entertaining cozy mystery

These books are a great way to make the time go fast. And the narrator brings the spirit of the television show back to life.

Any additional comments?

I don't know who to blame but the way Mort's wife, Maureen, was portrayed, it was like listening to Jessica talk to a 5 year old kid for hour after hour. Apparently the woman has a voice like a little girl (the narrator's doing) and knows NOTHING about ANY subject that is discussed, from fishing to the justice system, despite being married to a Sheriff (the author's doing). After trying for 2 hours, I had to give up. Too bad because I ALWAYS love the Murder She Write books. I've never turned one off before now. In fact, I usually listen multiple times just because I enjoy them so much.

Author vs Narrator???
