About this listen

A simple blackmail case goes south when Chanse finds the murdered body of his muscle-boy client in what appears to be a hate crime. But neither Chanse nor the police are convinced it was a hate crime, despite the frenzy being whipped up in the city by a charismatic-but-attention-seeking gay rights activist. The trail leads to a call boy ring, blackmail of wealthy uptown closet cases, and it's not long before Chanse's investigation has put not only his life at risk, but that of everyone he cares about!

I've read otherbChanse MacLeod novels but this is the first time I went to the start of the series. What a way to begin. A fun mystery, plenty of action, great dialogue, and damn funny.

A Great Beginning

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no. Yes, I liked the story, but I didn't like the production.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chanse, because he had just the right amount of snark

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I HATED his female voices. I've never heard a woman speak like that.

Did Murder in the Rue Dauphine inspire you to do anything?

Yes, it inspired me to read the rest of the books, but not listen to anymore of the audio versions.

Any additional comments?

The entire book sounded as if it was recorded in a warehouse.

Good story, poor production

I almost returned this book because of the quality of the recording. I am glad I didn't because it was a great book. it is also too bad that Audible doesn't have more from this author.

too bad

I lived in the French Quarter and Marigny for 30+ years and the narrator completely missed the New Orleans pronunciations again and again. Maybe it was just a digital voice reading.

I have wanted to read some Greg Herren and since I bought this book, I might just read it in Kindle and avoid the bad narration.

Though from what I tolerated from the narration so far. Greg Herren nailed New Orleans. I looked for to just reading this myself.
